I said this before, but god do I really want an angry political TWY record. We all know how political Soupy is and and it would make my soul feel so happy.
they deserve a break so yeah next year for a record sounds good. i have a good feeling the political climate will influence Dans writing a fair bit, hes definitely become more socially conscious over the past 2-3 records. im excited to hear this EP
I just hope they don't release a record in the spring then support it with a summer warped tour run. I almost feel like I remember reading somewhere that they're probably done with Warped tour but that might've just been my own wishful thinking.
This may be me overthinking but I think with NCTH being not AS well received by some people as the trilogy albums this is a big one career wise. Not saying it's a bad album, but I'm hoping they can bounce back with a fuckin banger.
I love this band but haven't really gotten into a record since Suburbia. TGG and NCTH both have some great songs but I don't ever feel driven to throw either record on in full. This band and Man Overboard were the only two bands I ever got in on the ground floor with. I first saw TWY play a VFW with The High Court pre-Upsides, and maybe even pre-WBPF? Idk. Anyway, they were horrible, and I fell in love with it. Now they are very good and very not horrible and I am hoping for something experimental because I'm sure they'd kill it. But yeah, the Upsides came out right as I left high school and moved into my own place. I will always cherish that record. I remember my preorder bundle from RFC was months late and I was so pissed about it. Also remember being so happy when I snagged a copy of Paper Boats when it came out.
So I'm sitting here arguing with my brother about the acoustic album. I really want the songs to be re-worked into songs much like Logan Circle:A New Hope. He does not and just wants it to be straight up acoustic songs. I'm also trying to explain to him how LC:ANH fits into the Upsides and what it means in the album cycle. Can someone help me with that? All I can really come up with is that ANH represents a rebirth of soupy realizing that everything isn't as bad as it seems.
That would be amazing, ANH is never skipped on my spotify. Can you explain to me the album cycle though? Ive tried kinda piecing it together as i listened but i felt like i never got the whole story of the album.
Would anyone here be interested in a NCAA bracket-style tournament of TWY songs? It'd be similar to what the Blink thread did where they'd take an album and battle out the songs. I'd compile votes over the span of a day and then the winners would go on to the next round. Feel like it would work great with these guys considering how strong their entire catalog is. Like this post or reply if you're interested so I can see if enough people would care.
Alright judging by the amount of people who were quick to respond to me I'd say it's a go. I randomly picked an album and it looks like we're starting with The Upsides. Get hype people, 16 songs, only one will survive. Each round will last 24 hours ending at 5PM EST, anything after and it doesn't count. At that time I'll post a follow-up with the winners of that round and the next round's matchups. Generally I'll use the b-sides from that album era to even it out for brackets but if that's not possible there will be byes that I randomly select. I used a randomized tournament generator to get this setup. For transparency purposes, if you want to see it here's the link Tournament Bracket Generator - Challonge You also have to pick a song from each matchup, no partial votes or indecisiveness. Also, if you just write the songs down in your post that's fine, but explanations for your choices or what you love about certain songs would be appreciated in order to make this as fun and interesting as possible.
