Solid stopgap considering the album doesn't look like it will be out until 2018 at this point. It's the first time they're missing the two-year window ever, by the way. Crazy how prolific they've been, and how high the quality has been in that span as well.
I'm not criticizing them for it, it's just a fact that I'm pointing out. They definitely do deserve an extended break, they've put out a new full-length record every two years since 2007. That's a lot of writing/recording/touring. And it's all been great. If they need time to come back with something new and great, they should take it.
Seeing the setlist talk, I quickly made one: 1. Washington Square Park 2. I Don't Like Who I Was Then 3. Coffee Eyes 4. Dismantling Summer 5. Woke Up Older 6. Local Man Ruins Everything 7. Yeah I'm stoked for the EP. Seeing them full band acoustic at the one VIP session they did was fucking great. Really wish there was one or two new songs on there but it's cool. I'm assuming we'll get a new album in early 2018
Hope the ep is a little more than just those songs on acoustic guitars. I know someone mentioned Hope earlier, and I agree that would be very interesting.
I think this is a semi-realistic dream setlist 1. Washington Square Park 2. Woke Up Older 3. I Don't Like Who I Was Then 4. There, There 5. Passing Through A Screen Door 6. Hope this bears resemblance to the acoustic Upsides bonus tracks that were totally different from the album versions. Logan Circle A New Hope is still one of the best from that era.
That'd be awesome if they did the songs in the same vein as that but I definitely don't see it happening
In my mind I like to think Logan Circle: A New Hope is the actual closer to The Upsides just because of how beautiful it is and how well it ties in with the rest of the album. I'm sure it'll be more in line with something like Hope or LC:ANH. I doubt theyd just release these songs with some acoustic guitars. Probably have more keyboard/organ parts and slower pace overall.
It's actually just electric guitars mic'd acoustically played faster than the record and we compiled audio from random people in the crowd singing along for the vocals.
i listened to the first half of TGG today (ran out of time for the rest), holds up very well mostly, dismantling summer was the only song i was pretty eh on
