Song definitely rips and sounds more like Old School TWY than anything off Sister Cities. I’m hoping for a mix of experimentation that existed on SC and the classic TWY sound from their first three albums.
thought you were being facetious but there's only one 2xLP on Discogs rn, when the fuck did all these get snaffled up??
I feel like TGG is best viewed as a whole. Especially if you haven't gotten to The Devil In My Bloodstream yet.
I think out of the most recent releases in their discography, Sister Cities is my least favorite, even though "The Ocean Grew Hands To Hold Me" is one of my favorite TWY songs of all time. TGG might be one of my favorite albums though, and I'm not sure if it's because it came out during a time when I was really fragile and needed something to hold onto, or if it's just how the record as a whole flows. I go back to that one a lot.
This is probably blasphemy, but I remember shitting on TGG when it came out for its lyrics. While I don't find them embarrassingly bad or anything, I do find them to be lacking some of the special stuff that makes me like the band. I'll have to pause until the end of the day to continue listening, but even when I was shit posting and trolling the band, I still respected the lyrics on NCTH. I wonder if they'll still hold up.
A couple of listens in now. Like it a lot, but don't think I love it quite yet. Feels like more of a cross between TGG and NCTH (with perhaps a few melodies that would fit in nicely on an Aaron West album haha) than a natural progress from Sister Cities. Which is a bit disappointing because Sister Cities is such a special album for me. But their lead singles are always something of growers for me, and Sister Cities (the song) is still my least favorite on the album, so the fact that the chorus has really been stuck in my head for the last hour is a good thing. Very excited to see what the rest of the album is going to sound like!
Excited to hear that this is on the album, now announce it so I can preorder the most ridiculous version!
I know I keep talking about it at the worst time since everyone is hype about the new music, but I am genuinely shocked at how much I connected with Suburbia earlier today! Really may have reignited my love for the band
I went through the same thing about a month or two ago. I almost forgot about TWY until I randomly played Suburbia. Now I'm listening to them constantly. Suburbia is probably my favorite by them at this point.
