New song is decent. Has me going back to their older stuff. Man, the lyrics on The Upsides are something haha. I don't even think if I connected to the majority of them when I was listening in college. I guess the fact that they were doing something different than the other bands in the scene (lyrically at least) was the draw. Melodies are still good on it.
not huge into the new song, doesn't really seem to lean into what I liked about sister cities after not loving tgg and ncth.
Man I really love the new track. Like a lot of people have said, it makes me really excited that the production / mixing on this sounds so clean. Last two records are incredible but leave a lot to be desired in that department. I thought the Madelyn references would feel heavy handed but obviously this band knows what they are doing and it rules. give me the album now plz
Yeah this song is awesome and pretty much feels to me where they left off with Sister Cities. I love the production and I could see this song making me re-discover a certain song on TGG which I never really loved.
Coincidentally Madelyn finally clicked for me big time after my Upsides/TGG anniversary show. Never expected it to be referenced again, specially so soon
they love their callbacks and self-referential stuff but it's never felt too obvious or overdone - especially at this point in their career, picking up previous lyrical threads can feel like pandering but again, they know what they're doing.
Great song, but a little “by the numbers” for them. Lyrics definitely hit hard, but I hope they continue with some of the sonic experimentation that was on Sister Cities.
has the store looked like this for a while or is this a new thing? (https://thewonderyears.myshopify.com)
I was just going to say I'd be surprised if the album announcement/pre-orders were today because the Loneliest Place On Earth store isn't down, but I didn't think to check the band store for some reason.
haha could be nothing i guess, but I just started a failed search for TGG vinyl and saw this - kind of yelped at my desk.
