Holy shit this is good. I expect nothing less from them, although Sister Cities is my least favorite album of theirs. Off to an amazing start with this one!
The "I got you a birthday gift, I wanna send it with pictures of my kids" is somehow so damn heavy. Shit.
I presume the Madelyn in this song is the same Madelyn from TGG, but I guess I might've missed along the way - do we know exactly who she is? I usually pay pretty close attention to Dan's interviews and whatnot, I just don't recall if this has ever been discussed.
Not sure if he's ever said, but I always assumed she was an aunt or cousin or something, mostly based on the line, "If I'm not doing right by my family, then what's the point of of it anyway?"
Had no idea what to expect from this album but was intrigued by Dan repeating "We recorded your favorite Wonder Years record" at the two Philly shows last month. He might not be wrong based on this single.
I'd be very interested if that was the case, considering we definitely have a new album coming this year anyway. Would think they'd save this for TGG 10 year anniversary if it's not on the album? Sorta like Brakeless/Out On My Feet with the Upsides/Suburbia anniversary. Unless there's just something bigger here than what we can see as of now.
interesting! they don't really do non-album singles outside of established tradition (Christmas songs) or anniversary releases. lot of promo for a loosie if so.
I'm just happy that this sounds decently produced. It's literally been almost a decade since we've had a TWY record sound like it wasn't conjured inside a tin can.
im not 100% on that but that was the vibe i got. could be wrong. anyway, song sounds to me like sister cities twy covering early twy
IT'S OUT IT'S OUT IT'S OUT TWY SEASON BABY Steve Evetts produced and Ace Enders has a writing credit on this I believe
