Someone captured it, though I think it might be missing a second or two of the intro. Song comes out on Friday to Streaming Services. Dropbox - TWY-Brakeless.mp3 - Simplify your life
There’s a rip going around but the quality is badddddddddd. They didn’t even cut the radio talk after the song ended lol Can definitely tell it’s based around that era
If it’s streaming on Friday, I wonder if we’ll hear more news concerning anniversary stuff before then!
Dan mentioned in the interview that this song was originally supposed to come out in December. The idea that this song and another one are part of an Upsides x Suburbia anniversery release explains a lot about the fact that he was teasing The Wonder Years test press vinyl having a Side H. Probably Upsides and Suburbia combo vinyl with all of the deluxe songs (as far as I know Rob Gordon and Living Room Song aren't on any vinyl release), then these two new ones tacked on.
Oh I get that, but it doesn’t do a lot for me. It’s nice to hear the sound, but it’s not like I’ll ever return to it.
Having Steve Evetts, Vince Ratti, and Alan Douches involved in the production, mixing, and mastering was a nice touch on getting that throwback sound going.
Song rules. Feels particularly...meta? (and I’m sure a lot of you feel this way too!) where I still enjoy their new stuff but no matter how great it is, I’ll always be biased toward the old stuff because of where I was when I fell in love with it. And they know they have fans that feel that way! And they’re just that damn good at this that they can immediately slip into those old shoes and write another ripper. I’ll always love this band.
The electric version of Living Room Song is on No Sleep's Comp for Mom, but otherwise I don't think so!
If that's what this is for I will pick this up quicker than you can say 'I'm not sad anymore,' holy shit. Fantastic song.
Hopefully it includes TGG as well. Never got around to getting Upsides or TGG on vinyl so this would work out well. They always said it was a trilogy. Wonder if it will be announced/go on sale at the live stream.
Great song, feels nostalgic on the first listen. A much more mature? version of the sound they were doing back then. Do we know if this is a single from an album or just a single? Curious if this is a sign of things to come or just a diversion and they'll keep pushing further in the direction of Sister Cities.
its interesting because I wondered how their sound would go after sister cities, which is basically a post hardcore record, if they would continue getting heavier or try to reel it back to their older pop punk sound.
I don't think this isn't an indication of their future sound because this and another song were brought back/written for the anniversaries of The upsides/Suburbia. Really loving what they've done though. I agree it's a much more mature version of the sound they had back then
Dan talked about it a little in that interview when they premiered it. Not an exact quote but he mentioned they always try to progress their sound and evolve and this is more a product of something he had around that he thought would be fun to go back to and actually flesh out a recording for.
I enjoy having one-off songs like this, but I definitely do not want them to regress back to that sound.
The Wonder Years have been my favorite band since I was 14, I would never want them to make the same record twice. The progression is the best part of loving an artist, watching them grow.
