I think The Upsides and Suburbia both sound fantastic and very different, but to each his own (the first is that classic early 2010s pop punk sound, the other feels really room-y and lived in). TGG definitely sounds the best though.
Grabbed the tour LP, glad I still got to get one even though the show cancelled and I'm excited to watch the stream!
Long shot -- but anyone have a screen printed poster from this tour or the last one they'd be willing to sell?
Oh, I love it. I will say, I've only fairly recently started listening to TWY as part of a thing where one of my friends (whose fave band are TWY) is introducing me to TWY one album at a time. We are up to No Closer to Heaven so far (so no spoilers for after that please). But I've properly fallen in love with them. I just wanna talk about them with anyone who will listen (which is why I'm here...)
That is a very tough question. It changes so often. Can I say Upsides, Suburbia and TGG altogether as a trio? Those three albums have such a special place for me now. I literally can't choose. Ask me for my top 5 songs maybe...
You sure can! Soupy has said in the past that those three albums are meant to be viewed as/listened to as a trilogy anyways
Nice. I used to feel very similarly. As I’ve gotten older Suburbia tends to be the one I go back to the most, so I call that my favorite. Crazy that it’s been almost 10 years since I first heard the upsides. Jealous of anyone discovering it now.
Yeah, they really do just make sense as a trilogy to me. But also because of the way I've been introduced to TWY and the way I've listened to the albums, there's like my own personal narrative connection to each of them. Like, Upsides on first listen was a pure first listen. Then listening back once we'd got to Suburbia, it felt different. Then once we'd got to TGG, Upsides and Suburbia felt different. And it's only been like at most two months since I first ever listened to TWY.
That's me, hi! At most two months since I had even ever heard of TWY. The "project" (as we call it) of my friend introducing me to them has been one of the best things ever. It's been so long since I've fallen in love so completely with a band.
Oh man, welcome to the fandom! They are an amazing band. What did you think of NCtH? I ask that as a long time fan, cause that is very clearly my least favorite in their discography. I hope you love Sister Cities as much as I do!
I am betraying my friend because we have it scheduled in to have our NCtH discussion tomorrow... But... I feel like it's definitely separate from the "trilogy". And I was expecting it to be. But there are big parts of it that I love. There are big parts of it that are so different to previous TWY but I'm into it. But as a whole album I didn't love it.
