The only line I'd change is the Korean baseball one. I understand it, but it still throws me off a little sometimes.
I think the verses would have worked in a different era of the band, but, outside of the outro, the song's just not really what I'm looking for at this point from the band. I'd probably appreciate it more if it were on Suburbia or TGG. The difference lyrically and musically between "Songs About Death" and "Low Tide" is enormous, and it's the not the only time on the album when these two sides of the band are thrown together like that. I don't think it's a bad song at all and I don't disagree with what people are saying about the mood it draws on, but I wouldn't have minded if it were released as like a standalone early-pandemic single, for example
It is essentially the original with a (very cool) instrumental section/outro. Not to be reductive as I like it a lot but in case you're wondering.
Ps I'm ready to be that guy apologies in advance but Summer Clothes You're The Reason Wyatt's Song Cardinals II Paris of Nowhere Oldest Daughter Low Tide Lost It in the Lights Old Friends Songs About Death Doors I Painted Shut Laura This is in order of song of the year down to song that I really really like but something has to come last.
I love it. I also grew out my hair during Covid because I didn’t give a shit. The line resonates with me.
Another page into it, so I'll say this: I grew my hair long twice in my adult live and it was mostly just to cut it and give away to make wigs for cancer survivors, at the same time I looked quite dumb for quite an extended period of time (it takes time, you need to grow your hair over 25cm=almost 10" long), and some people around me or even in my family would definitely repeat how I shouldn't grow out my hair like that, it doesn't suit me/doesn't look good or whatever. So - I personally love that line in the end hahh, all a matter of perspective.
This song already reminded me of my mom. One of her favorite things in the world are sunflowers. I'm sobbing. Love this band so much.
After seeing the reaction to Low Tide and Wyatt's Song last night I am going to make an overconfident prediction: if the band is still going in ten years there will be a ten-year anniversary tour off this album, the songs are good enough and the fans have bought in to the new songs 100%
