Outside of "Oldest Daughter" and maybe "Old Friends", I do think the unreleased tracks are easily the highlights on here for me. Cardinals II, Songs about Death, and the closer are all top tier TWY songs
Yeah, I mean, personally speaking, I'd be cool with pretty much only hearing "Washington Square Park" from the Upsides, because I do think it's a live staple. I'd also go very light on Sister Cities, not because I don't love it, but because I saw them like 8 times on that cycle, and I want all the room for Hum. Just me, though.
I saw the live show where they did all of The Upsides, so I'm totally content if they decide to move on.
The most impressive thing I’ve done so far this year is not cry when I heard “Laura & The Beehive” for the first time on my walk home from work earlier.
CARDINALS II. Also Lost it in the Lights, Songs About Death. Bangers. I thought Sister Cities sucked (I tried...) - this is leaps and bounds no doubt. Think I'll grab the LP.
Can't say it doesn't make me a little sad to see how few people liked Sister Cities, but I won't take it personally.
I think this record was done a major disservice by having a 6 month rollout with 5 singles, I really would have liked to go into it knowing less. Overall it feels like they want to rewrite the last two albums and instead put out a follow up to TGG but that’s kind of boring to me. It’s at its best when it’s mirroring Sister Cities on songs like Lost It In the Lights and Laura & the Beehive imo
The only songs from Sister Cities that I go back to are Flowers Where Your Face Should Be and It Must Get Lonely.
Man, that whole album destroys me like nothing ever likely will again. It reminds me so much more of a band like Thursday, too, which I really appreciated. Easily my favorite work by them, but I am really enjoying this one.
I’ve listened 3 times and I’m lukewarm on it. I absolutely loved suburbia, TGG, and NCTH but never got too into sister cities and this one isn’t hitting immediately for me. Wonder I’ve just grown out of these guys’ style. Some solid songs for sure but not loving it like I used to.
Cardinals 2 is the highlight for me. Album is very very good. I think I’d put it above sister cities and about on par with NCTH but I still prefer TGG and Suburbs.
Still unsure on how I exactly feel, but it feels damn good to get an album from them that sounds so crisp and clean. Missed hearing the guitar layers so well. closer is as good as advertised and like everyone else mentioned I think the long rollout with so many singles really undermines the impact of the album. Glad I tuned out after the third single, but wish we got two.
