Odd question but anyone have experience ordering a Cameo from Dan? I see that he's currently not accepting requests and wondered if that was a short or long-term thing. My best friend is getting married next year and I thought a video message would be a nice present.
Hmm, I’m so conflicted about their work for the WWE. TWY are my favourite band and, on one hand, I’m happy that they will (most likely) get a decent payday out of this, and will gain tonnes of recognition from a new crowd, but I can’t help but feel like they’re sacrificing quite a bit of their beliefs to get there. WWE are a company who, this week alone, had their top creative guy (HHH) front and centre with Trump/RFK, etc, talking about how much he admires them and agrees with their initiatives in health. Not to mention the countless bad things currently going around regarding Vince McMahon and his horrible sex scandals. (Hell, isn’t Linda McMahon in the Trump government?!) TWY have always been led by strong morals and values, but seem to have been totally blinded by the chance to write silly wrestling songs. How can you get on stage and say how you feel about the government, and about how much you want to make an positive change in an increasingly negative world, and then go away and work with a company who are in bed with the people you claim to be against?! I don’t know. I guess I just feel a bit disappointed in them for the first time…it sucks… (I’ll probably feel stupid even writing this soon, but for now, I’ll be angry.)
I'm not a wrestling fan, but diminishing something which evidently means a lot to the band (Dan in particular, who by all accounts is a lifelong fan) as "silly" isn't the way to go.
Folks is it silly to do a job you were handpicked to do by a really famous athlete you know personally?
I get being potentially upset about it, the WWE and TKO ARE pretty rotten, but I know Seth Rollins has been a big fan of TWY for forever and wrestling has been a pretty vocal point in the band's lyrics for a damn minute too.
I got one for my wife a few years back and it was great. He connected what I had written with some personal insight from him- then played an acoustic version of a song that reminded him of our situation (I didn’t ask for a song so it felt special). Very genuine, very kind, quick turnaround.
The amount of things that haven't been tarnished by association to Trump or Trump supporters is incredibly small. Considering how vocal Dan and the band are about social justice, I don't have any issues with their overlap into wrestling. It's just something they enjoy, and an opportunity to do a unique project.
I’d put it on par with Sami Zayn raising a ton of money for Syria and performing for the WWE while actively supporting Palestine. If nothing else, it’ll just bring more people to check out TWY and be exposed to their usual messages.
If they start playing WWE in Saudi Arabia then it will be a different conversation, but writing songs to be part of it is fine IMO.
I totally get why you'd be upset. Another person's point here is a great way to look at things, that it may lead someone to checking out the wonder years and getting into their message more. By cutting out "the other team" entirely, you eliminate the chance for dialogue and for people to be exposed to views outside of their own echo chamber algorithm.
That’s super cool, and I want to be happy for him, but it’s just so gross seeing Brock come back and trying to parse out the pros and cons of WWE
On Dan's instagram story. King shit. It's valid to grapple with a band you like producing something for an organisation as immoral as WWE, but it's also important to point out they wrote a song for a specific athlete/figure within the sport rather than the overarching umbrella organisation.
