Now that I have completed my preorder, I finally am watching the Wyatt's song video. The imagery of parenting kids and childhood make the song that much more powerful. I feel lucky to have grown up with this band and progressed through life with them. From The Upsides when I was finishing college, to now being the parent of two kids, this has been one hell of a journey.
the cover art is so beautiful. it's always nice to hear upbeat songs about kids, usually they're ballads.
One of the things I like most about Wyatt's Song is the lyric 'I stared at your knees/I wondered which one's gonna be/ The bad one in your thirties' because it's the kind of funny line I loved from Upsides, Suburbia, which seemed to fall away entirely in more recent releases. There are a couple of bits of the song that aren't callbacks to other TWY songs necessarily but do make me think of them. That one above reminded me of Came out Swinging (my lower back seems to disagree). The 'half-awake' line reminds me of 'you're half-asleep' in Raining in Kyoto, cycle of life kind of thing. Edit: One more, 'Grow you a place that's safer than this', back to 'take you some place safer' on Ghosts of Right Now.
The lyric they tease in the press release that is the first lyric on the album....my goodness.... Y'all, I'm not ready.
not sure if anyone said but this is out 9/2, not 9/23 and frontman of marigold! wait whered youusee this??
Everything I've seen besides the Kerrang interview (and the leak that said 9/16) has said 9/23. Won't complain if it's earlier, obviously.
I think the article had the wrong date, I had to do a double take. Band’s Twitter bio and teaser video both said 9/23
My new favorite genre of music is emo and punk bands I listened to in high school and college becoming parents and then writing songs about their kids and emotionally wrecking me in that way now. VeryCool!
Dan mentioning CM Punk's promo in this Kerrang interview, love it. Always wonder if he still keeps up with pro wrestling, I actually think he's the first person I ever saw talk about El Generico
You remember that shite people on AP would say about this band having no hooks? This song absolutely smashes that in a way no person with ears can dispute.
