Very interested to hear how they sound without Mike (and maybe Josh?). Neither of them were in the rehearsal picture they posted, and Mike posted about having a fill-in for this tour.
Yes to Australia, I've only ever seen them in a half hour festival slot at Soundwave after Suburbia. I actually have some money now and would travel to the eastern states to see them (did so for The Menzingers recently).
The Wonder Years and The Menzingers is pretty much my dream lineup. Going to the Stroudsburg show. I wonder who will close?
Did they make it seem like they were switching up the headliners on different dates? If TWY aren't headlining in Nashville, I might cry
Portland was great! They really seem to like Maine and made it a point to poke fun at themselves for not coming here again until ‘23. Only time they’d played the state prior was 2009. Said they told a lot of other bands to come through. Confirmed no Josh or Mike. Felt pretty weird, but they still sounded great. Doors: 6:30 Liquid Mike: 7:30-8:05 The Menzingers: 8:20-9:20 The Wonder Years: 9:40-10:40 Set for those who want it: Doors I Painted Shut Low Tide I Don’t Like Who I Was Then A Song for Ernest Hemingway Cardinals Dismantling Summer GODDAMNITALL Raining in Kyoto There, There Passing Through a Screen Door Year of the Vulture Oldest Daughter Old Friends Like Lost Teeth Came Out Swinging I Just Want to Sell Out My Funeral
Pretty good set. I like funeral showing up again but wish they wouldn’t have done as many of TGG songs with it. There There and Doors are just so similar in my opinion Menzingers setlist was pretty great too. Sad to miss this tour. We haven’t had to attend a wedding in over 5 years and just happens we have one this Saturday. I noticed they started advertising these shows separate (so did Menzingers) rather than a joint tour. Wonder if it didn’t pull great numbers. That’s shocking to me. Feel like they both often play venues these sizes on their own.
I definitely would have thought they’d sell out in Portland (Oregon) by now. It’s a 900 cap venue and TWY has sold out bigger rooms here by themselves. I’m sure it’ll sell out by show time though.
For what it’s worth, they sold out this venue in Portland (Maine) last year, but it was the Hot Mulligan run and a lot of people were definitely there for them. I’d say it was about 80% full this time around. Menzingers have played Maine a bunch and usually headline a slightly smaller venue. People were super into their set, too, but it definitely felt like TWY were the true headliner, whereas on that HM tour, I think it was a near even split.
Stroudsburg show was great. Someone got injured so they stopped for 10 or so minutes midway through “I Don’t Like Who I Was Then” and skipped a few songs to catch up time before Menzos went on. I revisited No Closer To Heaven today and ended up enjoying it way more than I have before. Some of their highest highs. The only Sister Cities song they played was the song the crowd kind of died down on.
Which was it? They got good reactions last time I saw them on the tour with Hot Mulligan like a year and a half ago
