Long shot but selling two tickets to New Haven. Thought I’d want to go to a second date for this but I’m old and last night killed me so one is enough for me. DM me if interested. Boston was amazing. Glad I got to see this album front to back.
Had an excellent time in Boston last night. The band sounded incredible. I've always enjoyed their live show, but it really can't be overstated how much tighter and better a live unit they are post-COVID, and especially since the release of Hum. TGG is my favorite record of all time, so it was ultra special to hear the whole thing front to back. All three opening bands were fun enough to watch, but I still just can't connect with any of them at all. Still appreciate the notion of bringing relative unknowns a support on such a big, successful run. Stuff like that makes me proud to call them my favorite band, even if the selections just aren't for me.
Excited for the show in Jersey this weekend. Coming straight from a wedding, with the brides, who will still be in their wedding dresses
I’ve never really gotten into this band but saw them live in KC a few weeks ago (admittedly I mainly went for Sweet Pill and Anxious). Holy shit, TWY rocked! I really enjoyed myself and was really surprised at the turnout too. I’ve seen the Truman emptier for bands that I thought were more popular than TWY. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a crowd yell along to as many lyrics as this show. The frontman’s banter was a little cringey though. He seemed like one of those youth pastors that are trying a little too hard to be ‘real.’ Like talking too slowly, repeating things too many times to try to get his point across.
He's always said he patterns his banter on pro wrestling hype speeches, so at least there's some intention there, but it's also my least favorite aspect of their live show. I actually thought this show had a little bit less of it than past tours though.
My wife saw them with me on the B&D tour in early 2020 and was like “why does he always draw out the last words of every song???” And now I notice it all the time
One of the funniest things about TWY shows is noticing which people (me, very guilty) sing along with the weirdly drawn out endings and little additions (the "it was definitely me" in "Cave In") because they've seen them too many times.
Interesting. I like pro wrestling promos but I don’t think it’s a good idea to make your stage banter like that lol
He tries a little too hard sometimes but better that than acting like you're too cool to give a shit.
I’d really like to see him in a more casual storytellers-style environment at some point. I’ve seen Aaron West shows like that but obviously that’s all done in character.
Yeah the little additional stuff Dan does live are great, ha. I always sing "me too" during WSP and the "It was definitely me" in DLMCI, or just the certain inflections in some lyrics.
I remember when Greatest Generation came out and I was so excited for the banter (I had seen them a few times before) and all he talked about was Taco Bell breakfast.
Another long shot but: anyone willing to cop one of the Greatest Generation 10 Year posters for me? The stylized one that matches the ones they did for Upsides and Suburbia? I’m an idiot and completely spaced on getting one at the Boston show and only just realized I didn’t get one. I even bought a frame for it already :,) if anyone could I’ll pay for the poster, shipping to Boston, and throw in a tip for the trouble.
that’s my plan b. I think they had the Upsides and Suburbia ones on their store after the tour was done so hopefully there will be leftovers.
Incredible show. This is the first album "anniversary" to make me feel old. Even came out of mosh retirement for Came Out Swinging. They sound better and fresher than ever (that was my 6th TWY show)
