Going to absolutely hate myself after doing the two shows next weekend and expect to go to work the next day, lol. Sometimes I'm like ah, I'll chill on the side for this one and then like 3 songs in I lose myself and go in for the rest of the show haha
I’ll be there at doors! Looking forward to checking them out. First time seeing them and hot mulligan
What a great fucking show tonight. All 3 bands were so so good. Soupy was super appreciative that tonight was the biggest show of the tour and it was pretty much sold out. Felt a sense of pride haha
I'm hoping the CT show is better then last year's. I mean thst show was great but it was hard to really enjoy Save Face/Origami Angel's when they were hard to hear with the bass sounding so muffled. Spanish Love Songs and The Wonder Years sounding so clear. I really want to enjoy Hot Mulligan lol
I didn’t notice any last night, but I didn’t look super closely at the spread (it was very crowded when I passed by), so don’t take that as 100% confirmation.
have a half marathon in philly at 7:30 on sunday morning lol. had tickets to both nights but going to skip saturday now, hoping my legs survive on sunday lmao
Yeah I already have someone who's going to meet me for it :/ good luck. I would try the wonder years collective fb group if you haven't, everyone usually sells at cost.
Had an incredible time seeing my favorite band in my own state for the first time. This was my 13th time seeing TWY overall, but never in Maine. The state certainly didn’t disappoint - the crowd was engaged and excited from the get go. Got rowdy for Hot Mulligan and incredibly crazy for TWY. One of the rougher crowds of theirs I’ve been in. Still all positive energy, though. I find there’s such a pronounced difference in TWY crowds and just about any other. There’s a level of respect, care for your neighbor, etc., that I just don’t see with virtually any other artist in this space. That unfortunately included Hot Mulligan, which I thought brought out a lot of pop punk bros who were looking to throw elbows and create pits in unnecessary places. The band was fantastic, and I love their music, but man, did the crowd get infinitely better when they were done. All the people around me causing trouble just left. Also picked up a Carly vinyl after the show and had them all sign it. Wonderful people.
I’m seeing them tonight for the first time ever since I’ve been a fan (~2012) and that’s great to hear! Helps that the crowd most likely will skew to the older side, over HM who may attract a younger, more tik tok novice fan base.
You’re in for a treat! For a long time, I never thought TWY were the greatest live band in terms of sound even though they were my favorite. I enjoyed their shows because they had great energy and passion, but I think they kind of went by “fast and loose” style so many in the scene have just always gravitated toward, and being a six piece lent itself to a lot of wall of sound type moments. That’s really changed in the last few years. They’re so much tighter. The instrumentation is more pronounced. Dan’s voice is the best it’s ever been. They’re genuinely such a strong, rich live act now, and they didn’t lose a bit of passion or energy in the process.
I don't think I've ever felt more "too old for this shit" at a show than during the Hot Mulligan set in New Haven. Wish I could say the same thing about the people leaving afterwards, but the crowd did at least get a little better for The Wonder Years.
I'm not sure if the people near me left, or just sifted further toward the back. I was on the guardrail, and had a bunch of dudes elbow their way onto it to jump completely out of sync and just cause chaos during their set. They were nice enough and certainly weren't trying to hurt anyone, it's just not something I ever see during TWY sets at this point. My girlfriend, who was further back away from the action, said she did see a handful of particularly rowdy dudes straight up leave the venue after Hot Mulligan. While I'm sure there's a ton of overlap in fan bases (like me), there was definitely a sentiment that I heard vocalized from the people there for HM that they'd hadn't really listened to TWY since TGG.
I can't ever understand leaving before at leat seeing a bit from all bands to see if I might like it, well
