Lightning is WAY too dark for TGG. If anything, I could see It Must Get Lonely or Orange Grove on that album.

Also, seeing these guys Saturday in NYC. So stoked.

Orange Grove would fit right in on NCTH. Reminded me a lot of Palm Reader, from the first time I heard it.

 

It basically does the same thing as Palm Reader but much more effectively, IMO.

 

Hmm I wouldn't say it's darker than songs like We Could Die Like This or Raindance In Traffic. Maybe even less dark! It's quite normal to think you're gonna die on a plane

 

I meant from a sonic perspective, it's very haunting.

 

I think he meant it sonically. It sounds more somber than the tracks before it.

 

Ah right, fair enough. To me it sounds like a slightly more developed Devil in my Bloodstream, with the quiet build up to a big explosion

 

Listened to this for the first time in a week or so and Ghosts was definitely my favourite.

 

Yeah in addition to that last comparison being from a sonic perspective, I just wanted to clarify that when I compared Palm Reader to Orange Grove I was doing it purely from a sonic perspective. The songs sound really similar to me. In terms of their subject matter they cover totally different topics.

 

It just occurred to me that I am not the slightest bit prepared to hear "The Ocean Grew Hands To Hold Me" live. Oops.

Triple posting to say I had a really lovely time at this show! I wish dan would stop doing that thing where he announces the name of every song before singing it but otherwise he’s a really great performer, as is the rest of the band. The new electric/drum machine flourishes add a lot to the older songs too in my opinion.

Pretty stellar set list. I love how well they can pull of electric and acoustic versions of songs live.

I got to see them do an acoustic set during the Suburbia era and Dan is an immaculate story teller, really funny too. I can only imagine they’ve improved as far as acoustic live songs go.

@nicksteinborn hey listen nick I will spend a minimum of $100 on merch and throw in a crisp high five if y’all come to the east coast of NC or even SC.
