Genuine question, not trying to be dry or sarky here, but can you name an NFG song that sounds like something off of Oh, Common Life? I don't like NFG so I really have no clue about the influence lol

I don't know what my hot take for the thread would be. I feel like I don't have many of them, or at least none that would be relevant to the present discussion. Hmmmmmm.

 

my single and only contribution to AP was the album opener topic suggestion for Encore

 

Now I'm listening to In Reverie, because why not. "What Went Wrong" tho

 

I thought OCL had some great songs, but there's maybe 5 that fall a little short for me. At its best, OCL is impeccably tasteful.

The vocalist will kinda hold back and subdue his vocal delivery where you might see some other pop punk bands (or an older incarnation of Fireworks) go real shouty and in your face. Consequently, when paired with these lyrics about loss, you end up with these real beautiful, reflective-sounding choruses. I also think they're great at channeling the emotional vibes their songs call for with their instrumentals. Run, Brother, Run is a pretty stellar example of both these effects.

The downsound to this vocal approach is that when the hook isn't there, it can come across as tired and unengaging. And if you're not picking up on this vibe at all, you probably won't get the album.

my greatest contribution to AP was saying that suburbia was my favourite album after my first listen to it. someone said that was stupid and I didn't post for like 6 months

 

One of my favorite TWY songs for sure. Probably my favorite before NCTH came out. Cigarettes and Saints is their best song though.
