Yeah, as of a few months ago. It's members of Everyone Leaves.

Is it just me or have the Wonder Years lost a ton of steam recently? I stopped listening to them after Surburbia... but I always felt like they were pretty popular around absolutepunk. I feel like I haven't really heard anything about them for the last couple years

Yeah I'm not sure "lost steam" is the best descriptor, I feel like they just sort of plateaued after No Closer To Heaven. Seems like there's a ceiling that only bands on the much poppier side of pop-punk can surpass (i.e. All Time Low, Waterparks, etc.). Wouldn't surprise me if we got one more album and a farewell tour from them but from the sounds of the "Burst and Decay" press release, we may not even get that.

They tweeted yesterday that they are going to be working on a new album in the fall, so we'll at least get that.

wouldn't say that plateaued they're just not as consistently getting bigger as they had been in the past. New record needs to be hype for them to get any bigger than they are right now though

They definitely grew exponentially after The Upsides came out. Last time I saw them was at The Phoenix in Toronto which is a 1,300 capacity venue and they had Real Friends, Knuckle Puck and Moose Blood with them. They played a 1,600 capacity venue with State Champs and You Blew It the year before. Hard to picture them growing significantly at this point. I'd love to see it but I can't think of a band with their sound playing bigger venues.

TWY's best bet at this point is to do a horizontal jump, becoming more accessible in the way that they aren't solely a pop punk band anymore. the current wave of pop punk has surpassed them in popularity because they aren't doing what the kids are into these days. they need to veer into another audience, and i think by making the music i think they truly want to make that will come easily to them.

  8. I agree 100%, but I honestly see them as a band like Bayside or Circa Survive where they're in a good enough place to just keep going on club tours and making good records. If they grow, amazing, but I'd rather them just make what they want to make instead of trying to appeal to a new audience.

Really? That press release gave me the exact opposite impression. Sounded like a band that planned to be around for a long time still.

My impression was that this untitled "new venture" or "collective" would be a brand new entity, one that will "roll out new releases, artists, and events."

Sounds like this project will be their main focus and may or may not even be related to The Wonder Years. I don't think they will dissipate completely but it sounds like they may be scaling back their activity related to this band.

I feel like they should have done Grog Shop or Mahalls in Cleveland for a more intimate vibe. Detroit for example is 300 cap and Cleveland is 600

I still think it will sell out though

I know we've been laying low for a minute, but I can assure you we'll be back at it once the record is released. Multiple of us have houses now and are married. Can't quit the day job for a gamble on something else just yet. :x
