This was my favorite season until the last episode. A lot of crazy dumb shit happened purely for plot reasons and a lot of it felt really unearned. I feel like the formula of someone having to die at the end the season ended up hurting this season the most
To be fair so is I am going to prison for embezzlement the only two options are religious enlightenment or murdering my entire family
This is a hokey, campy ass show disguised in a prestige television sheen - hence why this is probably my favorite season. They hit the right balance between the two and was the funniest of the seasons by far. I understand some might be disappointed with the resolution or the lack of biting satire/critique the previous seasons might have had, but it's all packaged so nicely that I'm not looking for that from this show nor hit it as a negative (even if the criticism is valid).
Agreed. I was honestly hoping the season would end somewhat quietly outside of a few personal revelations. So much of the finale felt forced and the reveal of Rick’s dad was astonishingly bad.
"the food there wasn't even organic!" was such an effective way of telling the audience exactly what kind of person Piper has actually been this whole time.
Mike White also kinda pulled a last minute "this character you assumed was seemingly sweet this whole season is actually kinda of a money obsessed asshole" thing with Zion too. Kind of made me second guess if in the cold open he was more worried about his mom or the money.
Victoria was so astute despite being drugged out I thought Piper was going to realize she couldn't do a silent retreat for a year
I think Victoria's arc of getting off the benzos and not being dependent on them and seeming generally happier for it was pretty cool
It would have been, but also like now that I know that is what they had planned I can feel it's absence. They built up this whole thing about Piper's insecurity about her sexuality early in the season and then they just dropped it with no mention of her sex life again. Now we know why.
Ignore the Page Six stuff, it just popped up in the feed with the pictures compared. I think it’s interesting how in the opening they were in the “see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil” line-up vs the closing where Lochlan and Saxon have switched positions and Piper is… where this metaphor might fall apart. I had really liked the top part when it had been pointed out earlier on in the season.
The more I look back on it as a whole, it definitely had too many strands, and none of them really worked with the conclusions we got. I see the intention, but yea, really failed the landing big time in the end. I said I was going to listen to the podcast, and there's stuff in there that if anything, makes it worse and really goes to show that perhaps a writers room was needed (as someone else suggested). Too many ideas that even with the 2 extra episodes, didn't mesh as a cohesive experience.
Mike White’s quotes in the Variety article are embarrassing. Dude seems really arrogant and self-important.
It was never up for discussion, it’s simply too long. He made this bespoke for clubs. (See his comments on YouTube) but yeah it whips!!!!
