Uh holy shit to so much.

 

Not as bad as those initial reviews made it out to be, but I think this was my least favorite of the 3.

 

Honestly I gotta sit with it for a bit but this might have fucking sucked

 

Laurie was excellent. The rest… hm, indeed.

 

best cast and performances of the three seasons but the worst writing by a long shot. having a writers room, underrated!

 

Better than S1. Nowhere close to S2. Still enjoyed my stay. See y’all in 2 years.

 

Finale was a little over the top if you ask me but I still enjoyed this season overall. Not as good as either of the first two but probably funnier.

 

Ill discuss it more with her tomorrow but my wife turned to me at the end and just said 'yea i didnt like it'. Ill have to think on it a bit myself to decide... wasnt blown away and some character arcs didnt feel all that satisfying, or complete, or even 'right'. I enjoyed the season overall and this wont tank the whole thing but yea... was... interesting.

 

Ill also be paying attention to the next locale too. Ive got Tanzania and mt kili on my bucket list so ill be annoyed if the show gives that location the white lotus effect before i make solid plans (all tongue in cheek, but i do think Africa is a strong possibility if this show keeps going, if not s4 then after).

 

Not sure if it was supposed to be funny or not but I laughed so hard at Fabian’s reaction to the shots being fired.

 

Id love to see Switzerland, Aspen or Iceland

 

I know opinions have been mixed on this season throughout, but part of why I'm so frustrated is that I thought they had almost entirely earned the slow burn. There were some really interesting characters this season. The fact that they made Saxon interesting! His arc and Laurie both felt like Mike White finding Enlightened form.

But like...after all that how did this end up being so goddamn SILLY?!

-Lochlan's dialogue about being a pleaser
-The sister's caving being so cartoony ('not even organic!')
-Everyone predicting the Rick's father storyline and then that somehow happening in the corniest way possible
-No aftermath to the shooting at all, just everyone leaving normally
-Ymmv on this one, but no payoff to the white collar crime didn't really work for me
-Gaitok and Mook was so close to interesting but without seeing any aftermath of the shooting we really didn't get the conflicted Gaitok it would have needed to really sell it imo
Annoying because there were a couple things I liked:
-Carrie Coon scene was amazing and a perfect wrap to those three
-The scene with Malfoy almost killing his family was legitimately hard to watch
-One more week, one more incredible Poseyism with have you heard of wine???
Season 2 really earned its ridiculous ending. This just really didn't for me pretty much at all.

 

Yeah still great overall but that was a telenovela ass ending

 

all that slow burn to rush through everyone’s conclusion in the last 20 minutes was super frustrating. like that’s all the conclusion we get with the ratcliffes?

 

I’m a little burnt out on the formula, I think. Would be cool to get an outlier season, something that totally rewrites the “murder mystery” structure. It would also be refreshing if more focus was put on the local characters and given deeper, more complex characterization.

Yeah, pretty weak ending. Genuinely couldn’t believe the Goggins shoot out stuff wasn’t a dream sequence like the dad’s murder suicide scenes throughout the season. Not really any payoff or consequence to all the other storylines

 

i was pretty happy to see belinda get her bag

 

my partner and I were just talking about this - my pitch was to do it at a fancy hot springs/ski resort. That way, you can have the springs be a social gathering still where the different guests can mingle and swim but it also gives us a break from all the tropics haha

 

mike white is a survivor super fan, and that show is notoriously formulaic especially in the new era. this show might just follow suit. more about the journey than the destination.

 

I just like idea of the aesthetic being of a dark winter night around a fire place in a skiing lodge for a murder mystery haha
