Loved that finale. Wish we could have more time with these characters, but I'm excited to see what they do for season 2
clap clap clap clap clap. I actually clapped at the end. GREAT SHOW!!!!! I'm so happy with that last episode. It's the dark ending this show needed and deserved, with only one character getting a happy ending just so you dont feel like total shit when the show ends. The red herring with the coughing older guy was beautiful haha All of these rich assholes show up....kill someone...send someone to jail..and all go back to their normal sheltered lives. No consequences for anyone. But Quinn gets to go on his little adventure so you feel a little happy.
Man, I was completely underwhelmed by the finale. Definitely didn't expect that all their lives were going to crumble or anything, but some of the choices made felt like the least interesting options
I think choosing the "dark ending" was super intriguing and depressing and im haply they went that route. I considered this the dark ending. No comeuppance for anyone!!! I like it Everyone goes home as if nothing happened and the people who live and work there's lives are changed/ruined forever. I mean the show made you believe many people could have died. That the couple were gonna break up and she was gonna stand up for herself and leave him. Armond was gonna get his revenge. Paula was gonna tell off Olivia and not be friends and have a "movie moment" and Olivia apologizes etc etc. But none that happened cause essentially that's not what always happens in real life. It honestly felt like a great swerve for the ending
I’m into the fakeout. It still felt like the show took place in this heightened reality, but still grounded in this world. The end was way more realistic than something explosive and in your face, or at least more intentionally thought-provoking. I personally like an ambiguous speculative ending more than a movielike ending.
there was no way Rachel was gonna dump him then and there because she couldn't afford the plane ride back haha, I still want to believe she leaves him when he inevitably cheats on her and hopefully by that time they have a kid I think there was no good conclusion to the Kai/Paula/Olivia saga, they never should have had him steal the bracelets and they should have fleshed out Liv and Paula's relationship more
Bummed about Belinda. She was too pure. Most of the main cast were actors I know but hadn't seen them in much, and they all killed it in this. Impressive work virtually across the board.
Re: Paula, I thought her arc was beautifully done and tragic all at the same time. She reads Discourses on Colonialism and castigates Olivia and her family for their role in the historical injustices on the island and elsewhere, while at the same time failing to realize she's embedded herself with them. It makes her failure to help Kai that much more impactful. Similar to Shane and others she suffers no real-world consequences for trampling on the lives of natives and the non-wealthy, however she is left emotionally devastated at the realization of what she's done and her place in all of it. Powerful stuff.
Just implied that she's wealthy enough to go to a liberal arts school but nowhere near Olivia, like Rachel was 15 years ago
Did not realize that Mike White also portrays the actual Ned Schneebly in School of Rock. I do believe I want to watch more of the things he has been a part of and written now.
