I'm on chapter 16 Egwene is telling off Elaida in front of the sitters. Standing up to her and confronting her, soooo good. So far I've loved The Gathering Storm, really every chapter has been used to move something forward plot wise. Nothing wasted.
I loved that scene (and it took so damn long to get there, ha) I feel like her imprisonment went on maybe a bit too long. And I totally agree, Sanderson doesn't want to waste a sentence.
Everyone I know is going to hate me when that starts and it's all I can talk about. Memory of Light showed up yesterday. I've got a few things I want to read first but then I'm finishing this bastard
Starting the final book and I was looking at the table of contents and noticed there's a 200 page chapter titled The Last Battle Hell yea
Fun fact, it was 1am and I had been reading since 7am and I told myself "one more chapter." Turned the page, it was said chapter. I finished the book at 5am.
Lol, I know that's going to happen to me. Or I'll be at work and right before I'm off I'll get to that chapter and just stay at work overnight.
I tried reading the first one when I was a dumb teenager and I couldn't get into it but I feel like I should try again. 14 books and a prequel is quite the commitment though. Would you guys say that their quality is fairly consistent over the years or are some definite low points? Also, how would you classify them? I mean, I know it's high fantasy but is there focus on big battles or is that more in the background?
I say there are a few dips in quality. I did not like book 10 at all. For the most part the quality is excellent. There are come really huge battles throughout, but also some smaller scale adventure type stuff scattered throughout
Book 10 is definitely the low point, but the end of book 9 is one of the highest in the series imo. High Fantasy. It's technically a quest narrative (group assembles in small village bar, seeks x) and a heroic arc (forgetting the technical term) narrative.
I'd also add that it has a tremendous cast of villains, like one of the best ever, so if you're into that.
I love a good villain. Honestly, I just want some good characters that I can fall in love with. That's most important to me.
I'm almost finished with The Eye of the World. I'm loving it. How does it compare to the rest of the series? Is it one of the more well liked books in the series? One of the worst? Somewhere in-between?
OK one of the best moments ever Rand basically saying fuck you to Moridin in his dream. Ugh this is so perfect.
Big spoilers so beware. Egwene Vs Rand at Merillor was so intense. I love the way they have been turned against each other. And the chapter ended with Moiraine showing back up, hooray! I cried pretty hardcore when Moiraine went through the Karaethon Cycle Just everything coming together to perfectly. Of course Nynaeve hugging her. And now Lan actually laughing!
Just finished Towers of Midnight. This book completely redeemed Perrin for me. I thought he was boring before now. Also the Tower of Gehnji was sooo good. Can't wait to finish this beast, and yet I'll be sad when it's over
