Expected, but still sad news. It was a frustrating experience / watch for me, as every episode was full of moments i loved, and then moments i hated. In the end, im not sure this was the right team or approach, and that sucks, as i cant see another studio taking a stab at it anytime soon, if ever.

I think the 1st couple of episodes, and the s1 finale tanked it for a lot of people. The special effects and overall vibe was pretty atrotious at the start - i know a lot was covid related, but it was undeniably rough.

S3 was much, much better but i still hated the channeling animations, the dialogue, and the at times, the break neck back and forth pacing.

Probably time for a reread sometime in the nearish future, maybe a 2026 goal.

EDIT - i enjoying chatting about it in here with ya'll and 32 pages of discussion is pretty good engagement. Oh well, like i said, expected.

  2. Gonna sound like a hypocrite because I didn't even watch the new season but... the show rarely felt properly advertised, or advertised enough so even though this is an outcome I saw coming even back when S1 came out, I can't help but think they could've done much more about it? The long wait between seasons didn't help.

I would kill for an animated take on this story in the style / vein of those shorts that were released to drum up interest in this show / fill people in on the backstory & world

it feels to me like all of the studios (channels?) are chasing that Game of Thrones level success and so feel the need to completely ape GoT on the surface level or superficial details (sex, gritty violence, even live action fits here to a degree) while not realizing that fans will connect with a good telling that treats it's source material and eventual audience with respect

    * also, and I know this is a jump, but one thing about this show that I can't remember ever happening to me before is that Daniel Henney's Lan made such an impact on me that he became how I see the character in my head now when I read the books
