Making peace that this will never be the books is such a great way to enjoy the absolute crap out of this cold open.

The prime recap (thats like 20 minutes long on youtube) was super well done, and really helped refresh and fill in the gaps. So glad i checked it first.

Only watched ep 1 last night and i liked it, but yea, we are continuing to deviate big time from the books, so mentally i just need to keep this as its own thing to enjoy.

In the vaguest of terms so as not to spoil, the first episode makes it clear that the alliances, relationships, and who key events occur around / happen to, are all going to be shifted. Its not too far off broad stroke wise just yet, but the wheel has woven a completely different path thus far.

At least we still got Mat vs Galad and Gawyn in some form.

Curious what everyone’s thoughts are after finishing all 3 episodes. I’m feeling like this season is closest in tone to my own head-cannon even when deviating in specific plot points and I’m going to be real bummed if we don’t get a renewal for a fourth.

Finished EP3. Non book reader but I gotta admit, this season has been fantastic so far. I dunno if it's screwed upon but it feels like every season has hands down, improved over the season before it. Not that any season has been bad just seems the stakes have been getting higher and higher so the quality has matched the level needed.

I just finished ep 2 and my only real complaint is that i hate the music ha, so pretty minor. I always did, but if thats my biggest complaint this season, thats not much. i think just like the books, its taken a minute but its starting to come into its own. I dont like all the changes with the character placements in the world and the relationships, but from a 'is it good tv?' standpoint i think its starting to click.

A lot of good foreshadowing too with some background stuff... a certain board game with 2 types of pieces was spotted.

All caught up. Definitely the strongest season yet, but theres always a moment or 2 each episode that i dislike. Its very corny / lame at times. Always brief, and those moments are spread farther apart, but they still rear their ugly head. I cant pinpoint exactly what it is, but some scenes just dont work and i think its mainly the writing and background characters blurting out lines then standing around.

Its also very choppy, i feel like the end of episodes cuts between too many scenes and it has that 'okay, that was the last SCENE right?'. Not much breathing room, but thats also typical for a lot of shows early season.

Overall tho, im pretty high on whats its turning into and will eagerly away each Friday.

First 3 episodes ruuuuuled. And this show has to have the most beautiful people on it of any show, period. And Lanfear stands above them all. Mat fight should have had a crowd but that's my major criticism of these episodes. That and Morraine working with Lanfear like they did. What a great start to the season.

Episode 4 is a visual treat and drops lore bombs left and right. I feel I need to watch some recaps on YouTube from book readers or something because I feel there's so much more to understand than just a show watcher surface level understanding.

What a fucking episode! God this season is hitting on all cylinders!

For all the ways it feels like the writers don’t quite understand the story they’re telling, they then up and drop an episode like that where every single note is perfect.

They dealt with Covid and losing one of their main actors in the first 2 seasons so I can give them some grace. I think they've seen the backlash and are course correcting.

Is that the first time they do an episode with just one location? It was definitely the right time to do that. It would have suffered if we were going back and forth to the Two Rivers or Tar Valon.

I think so? But agreed, the episode felt really tight with what it was trying to get across rather than jumping between locations and stories.

Watched this one twice and really enjoyed it. If they nail the other 'big' moments of books 3 and 4 with as much craft, care and attention as this one, its going to continue to be a stellar season.

Im seeing on reddit some people jumping back on board and im working on convincing a few friends to jump in / back on, but im pretty nervous we'll get a post saying that this is it, going out on a high.

Also makes me want to reread but i dont think i will anytime soon. Maybe reread through 6 sometime later in the year.

I suspect they are going to blend the end of 3 and 5 into one event: Rand vs Rahvin for Callandor at the Stone of Tear.

IF that’s the series finale, and they were given enough notice to film it as such, it’ll be possible to end it with that same feeling of partial completeness TDR the book ends on had the trilogy been all that’s published. The Dragon is Reborn, has his greatest weapon, fade to black, etc.
If they have been given the green light to close out one more season, I have no idea how they end it.

If they go for the full remaining five, I suspect it’ll be some version of

    4: 6
    5: 7-10
    6: 11
    7: 12-13
    8: 14

You can already tell how much they’re trimming out, so those “slog books” could really be sped run.

That also will leave less than a Forsaken a season, though. Book spoilers: I saw a theory Demandred has been cut entirely for the show since we’ve met 7 of the Forsaken and the 8th statue was holding a guitar which is clearly Asmodean. So you have to think that Moghedien remains Nynaeve’s big nemesis. Semirhage is probably still with the Seanchan storyline. I suspect Graendal is replacing Messana in the White Tower plots as her book plot is probably easiest to dismantle. Ishamael is dead. I suspect Lanfear dies this season and isn’t reincarnated since they’ve gotten away from that side of it a bit. Rahvin dies at the end of this particular part of the story so I don’t see him moving forward after this season. And then Sammael is the clear big bad of the slog. So Demandred makes a lot of sense for the end of the series bad as written… but we’re at 8. Hm. So maybe they merged Demandred into Sammael? Asmodean?
Whoops, Discord spoilers don’t work here… lol

While this episode wasn't as focused as last week since we were dealing with MULTIPLE stories I really enjoyed it. Lots of developments I feel!

Havent watched 6 yet, but 5 was back to an ugly mix of the the good and the bad.

I absolutely HATED the channeling on the ship (so so bad and dramatic) and the dialogue is so clunky. I also disliked the dream sequence at the end of 5. I get its TV, and has a point to make but thats... not how dreams work... way too neat and corny.

Another part i didnt like but par for the books, is Faile and Perrin. Absolutely nailing how grating they are together.

All that aside... this season is realy, really good and im excited to watch 6 tomorrow.

i unhid the spoiler since i read the books and nice, was only a matter of time.

Wait did Asmodean literally show up and immediately die?
