I didnt know that so ill stand corrected but ive only read mistborn era 1 and the first 3 stormlight. If gay characters are in those, i forgot or it went over my head.
One of the guys in Bridge Four has a husband, I’m pretty sure. That’s the one that comes to mind off the top of my head.
200 pages into the great Hunt and I like it a lot but Rand sucks. Worst character in the show and books so far. Big whiner. Hope he gets better over a 14 book series or whatever lol.
Just finished Book 3. The books are getting better with each one so far (but I know the slog is coming before it picks up again)
I enjoyed the season overall as a non-reader, but yea, the flaws are clear. Some things are too rushed and not explained , some things drag, cgi is bad, etc. I’d watch a season 2.
I would try to get what people have told you about it being a slog out of your head. First, you've got 4/5/6 which to me is one of the finest 'trilogies' of fantasy I've ever read. They are just back to back to back awesome with huge developments and memorable moments. It doesn't really 'slog' to me till much later (8/9/10 though there are parts in each book with merit), and even then, with the ability to binge read, it's not that bad. I think the reputation came from people waiting years between books. Try to make up your own mind, but even if the upcoming slog is stuck in your head, you're not even close to it yet. #4 might be my favorite book of all time (at least from the fantasy genre).
That’s good to hear! I think as I adapt to the world, I am enjoying things I would have considered a slog before I knew the characters. I struggled with the first half of the first book but had no problems with 2 or 3 at all. I am taking a break to read Blood Meridian before book 4…but I am finding myself regretting that and just wanting to read book 4. Hopefully I’ll start it next week
Seems to be some news about a season 3 and 4 going around, though I guess none has been directly addressed by Amazon so cautiously optimistic. By a lot of metrics, it seems the show was a massive hit, but I'm surprised they're not waiting to see if season 2 is a hit before going further. There could easily be a big drop-off, but on the other hand, plenty of shows have suffered rough beginnings and gone on to be great (though most off the top of my head were pre streaming). I hope that with more confirmed time, it allows the writers to slow down and create longer and more satisfying arcs. Complaints about changes from book to show aside, the biggest other complaint was pacing so more guaranteed story time can certainly fix that. I also hope to see a massive increase in the quality of the CGI and I really, really hope they fix what channeling looks like (not the graphics, but the expressive hand movements). Also 4 seasons would just have to put us through book 6 right? So much of the meat and bones of the story are in 4-6 and I would imagine they will be eager to highlight those story highs to show just how good the story is and hopefully go beyond 4 seasons. Those that have read the books like me, should all be salivating at the idea of some of those scenes coming to our screens.
Rafe has said one of his main goals has always been to see Dumai's Wells on screen. 4 seasons to get through Lord of Chaos works, I think, if they give each season two more episodes.
You'd be hard-pressed to find a better fantasy trilogy than 4-5-6. But if you weren't in love after 1-2-3, it may not hit for you.
I think yes, but if you disliked it enough to stop, i think it depends on what you didn't like. You could have some grievances that won't go away, no matter what developments the plot take but as far as content, 4/5/6 are widely regarded as the best in the series (with some of the later books up there, this is a series that really sticks the landing).
I don't think it's too hot of a take. Eye of the world doesn't rank too highly on a lot of people's lists, and mine personally, just because it's testing the waters and the world doesn't really 'explore' till book 3. Only some of the middle books do I put as worse than eye of the world (and worse is used comparatively, I still don't think it's a bad book or any of them really).
Not a hot take, great hunt was a major step up for me as a first time reader, and dragon reborn another step up. On shadow rising now
It’s, at best, the 8th best book in the series and, at worst, the 11th best book in the series. 3-6 are my top four. 2 floats around 5-7
It's funny that book 3 is called the dragon reborn and I'm halfway through it and Rand isn't really in it at all. Also Perrin is a huge whiner as well.
Ha... I once lamented that Perrin wasn't featured enough on reddit and someone said you will rue the day you ever wished for more Perrin and that was so true. He is by far the most repetitive, least interesting character with the weakest arc. And depending on where you are in book 3, you may or may not have got to the event that sends him into ZzzZzzZ territory. He is in a few great scenes, and the effect that his actions have on the overarching events of the series means he's equally as important as the other main characters but he's still absolutely 100%, no doubt about it, my least favorite POV character in the series.
