kind of get the feeling that episode 5 might be a "calm before the storm" of episode 6, which BrandoSando said was his favorite so far.
I hope we see her being super intimidating and then let her guard down when its just her and Moiraine. I think it could possibly bring a little more humanity to Moiraine's character too.
It seems like they've changed the relationship between those two. In the last episode one of the other Aes Sedai or a warder (I'm forgetting who) said something to the effect that Moiraine and the Amyrlin don't see eye to eye. Although I suppose that could be a deception
Didn't they pretend to hate each other after they were both raised so that people would forget how much they worked together?
It appears not. The family killed by the Fade in episode 4 are the Grinwells from that section of the book.
Im honestly pretty bummed they arent going to Caemlyn. we're missing out on them being shocked each time they go to a new city and its bigger than the last. It shows how much theyre all country bumpkins
Elayne is in season two, so maybe they will go there then? It's hard to have the series without Caemlyn, I'd think.
im not finished with book 2 yet so dont spoil me too much, but that could just be her meeting Egwyne at Tar Valon? but she wouldve had to met Rand before that I guess...
That is how I expect Elayne to be introduce in the show, tbh. Not sure how they'll maneuver the garden wall scene watching Logain. But Morgase and Gareth also gain prominence (in the books, anyways) as the story progresses, so I'm expecting part of that to show up eventually, I guess?
a selection of things that made me react, in order: Way Stone! DRAGONMOUNT TAR VALON The White Tower! Moiraine and Lan both falling in love with Nynaeve but not saying it is making my day. They cast this trio magnificently. I think I love the Tinkers after this Whitecloaks scene. Eamon Valda was really ramped up as a villain. LOIAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Legit teared up when he started talking. “I like oddities.” Logain seeing Mat and Rand! Barney is such a perfect Mat. It hurts he won’t be back next season. The Warders are my favorite show expansion thus far. GOLDENEYES. Fuck, they made Valda evil. Liandrin is so well done, my word. Almost makes me not hate her. Nynaeve recounting the first time she touched the power without realizing it to Rand regarding Egwene. Beautiful book Easter egg. I was curious how they’d show the wolves. We really need Elyas sooner rather than later. I was curious when the Forsaken would appear in the mythos. Lovely little scene to bring them in. Showing the difficulty of the Bond was very good throughout the episode and very odd at the end of it.
Obviously, this could change next season with the introduction of Elayne… but does anyone else whose read the books feel like they’re blending Elaida and Liandrin into one character? Especially if Liandrin can challenge Siuan as Alanna is implying.
Has it been confirmed that Elyas is even in the show at all...? The way they are handling the storyline so far, I could see him being cut entirely.
I think when they introduce Elyas, it’ll be after Perrin can’t be the Dragon Reborn. “Oh, he talks to wolves” means he’s not the one who can channel. Highly doubt it happens, but Elyas and some wolves at the Eye would be a much easier adaptation than explaining a Green Man. Edit: there are two males cast in season one who we don’t know who they’re playing, iirc, though one has to be Fire Eyes.
I am absolutely LOVING this show. I couldn't quite get a read on how my wife was feeling about it, and then she bagged me watching Episode 5 without her and she was PISSED!!! Not good that I was in the doghouse for a few but a good sign that she's loving the show as well.
My best friend and his wife, non-book readers, text me after they watch it every week and I just feel so warm inside. I don’t think it’s reached “great” yet, but damn if it isn’t quantifiably “good” and “entertaining”… it’s all I’ve wanted. I love this story so much, so getting it in any capacity with an audience growing, I’m just so pleased. I hope we get the eight seasons he wants. A lot would get cut, but a lot wouldn’t.
Each passing episode I get more and more upset that there's a new actor playing Mat next season. Hopefully it's another Daario situation. Hard to tell cause he's opposite easily the weakest link in the cast so the differences are really highlighted.
I actually think the actor playing Rand is pretty good. We've gotten a few quick glimpses of him getting to shine a little bit. I think his character is suffering a little bit from the mystery of "Who is the Dragon Reborn???" being amped up as it is in the show. It feels to me like they are purposely avoiding highlighting him very much at all at this point, while also playing up aspects of other characters to kinda fake out the audience. I understand why, and don't even think it's a bad idea really, but I do think Rand's character has suffered because of this.
Agree to disagree. Rand and Perrin are the weak links in the show. But not enough to hamper my enjoyment.
That's funny, because I also feel like the actor who plays Perrin is phenomenal as well. I think the writing and plotting so far has stranded those two actors a little bit, whereas the actor for Mat has had a little more opportunity to shine, and has absolutely knocked it out of the f---ing park. I honestly feel like the actor for Perrin is really going to start impressing people as soon as his storyline picks up a bit. In general I feel like the casting has been absolutely spot on for this show so far. I would have to admit that the actor for Rand does feel like the weak link at this point, but it is very, very early in the story.
“Deadline reported today that actors Guy Roberts, Arnas Fedaravicius, and Gregg Chillingirian will have recurring roles on season two of the show. Roberts is playing Uno Nomeshta, the gruff soldier who serves Lord Agelmar while Fedaravicius (The Last Kingdom) will play Mesema (aka Masema in Robert Jordan’s books), another one of Agelmar’s warriors. Chillingirian (Discovery of Witches) will play Ingtar Shinowa, a lord and soldier from a war-torn land. In case you were wondering who the heck is playing Lord Agelmar, we know that too: Thomas Chaanhing (Marco Polo) will guest star as Agelmar in season one along with Sandra Yi Sencindiver as Lady Amalisa.”
I think Rand is great so far and he's definitely shown flashes of being capable of the more challenging story aspects to come. I haven't gotten any bad acting vibes yet. I felt like this was a good world building episode and I loved how the forsaken were mentioned so when they need to play a bigger part, it won't be totally random. I also have read a few things about how episode 6 is a big one and often in shows like this there are world building/slow plot episodes before crazy ones. I think it's getting better each week (not necessarily each episode being better than the last), but as far as the parts equaling a greater sum. We're adding more and more of the wheel of time's threads and uniqueness to each episode. I still think the show is a bit too clean, and things often look like sets more so than other fantasy shows, but overall I'm happy. What I'm not happy about is the witcher season 2 coming so soon. A lot of people on the fence for WOT may jump ship if they like the witcher more as they'll be watching them so close, comparisons will be inevitable. I wish WOT had a little more time to settle into peoples minds before the next fantasy show is unleashed on them.
