Interesting points on both, but I never interpreted Natalie’s character as dying at the end of Black Swan.

In regard to Requiem I always felt the manic, overt drug representation was meant to help the viewer feel what it’s like to be an addict. As a former addict I strongly related to the quick pace someone can spiral. The lack of oxygen in the last 40mins is tough for me to watch just because of how it mirrored some peoples journeys I met while in rehab.

I haven’t seen that many of his films, but I remember loving The Wrestler.

Its been probably 15 years since I saw requiem for a dream and im not going to watch it again, But it is Iconic and was the first piece of art Id seen that was aggressively hostile to its audience. I think that almost all the critism it gets is fair, you definetly dont get a balanced view of addiction or drug use but I also think that over the top, agressive, overt art has its place.

Incredibly unpleasant, everyone except Fraser giving pretty awful performances. Bad script. Yucky

I could even remove any criticism I have surrounding “fatphobia discourse” or whatever and hate it more than anything I’ve seen in recent memory. Sadie Sink’s character is absolutely awful and paper thin, and she does not do a good job. Samantha Morton’s only scene was terrible as well, and I really like her in other things. The “twist” or whatever about the bible kid is convoluted and ultimately meaningless. The writing, across the board, was the weakest link. It tried so hard to cram a bunch of different ideas into a single film and it just fumbled them all. Fraser was good with what he had, it’s just a shame he had to prove it in this piece of shit

When I read what the twist was I knew it was an Aronofsky movie. I wonder if it can beat Babylon.

What is going on. Hill did not put on weight *for* the role. He just…struggled with weight gain and then a big loss. What is happening

I'm morbidly curious about this. Gotta feeling it will be my least favorite film of the year and maybe unintentionally hilarious

Someone on Letterboxd called this Simple Jack for Aronofsky heads and I can’t unsee that. Like a parody movie within a good movie.

  21. I went in for Fraser and got a lot of Fraser. I also love to see Hong Chau in anything, so I feel like I got my money's worth.

I can’t believe I spent $17 to see this movie. God, the “themes” were so bluntly stated and the way they were portrayed were incredibly boring, the worst offense when translating a play into film. Sadie Sink was horrendous, and I really hope she gets another chance. Simple Jack for Aronofskyheads (didn’t even know that was a thing lol) is an apt description

Brendan is pretty much the only highlight

agree that hong chau is also giving this a better turn than the film deserves

Loved the score and Fraser and Chau were great. Like how the ending was done, though completely undeserved.

The film itself felt like someone watched The Wrestler and made a parody. The missionary kid and Morton were awful. Fuck a lot of how they depicted Fraser. Also, I wonder if Aronofsky realizes he/this was just as emotionally manipulative as a cult.
