I wonder if this would have been received better critically if he had done what Future did with FUTURE and HNDRXX. Like "Party Monster", "Reminder", "Six Feet Under", and similar tracks on one record and then another record with sweet R&B jams like "Secrets", "Love To Lay", and "I Feel It Coming". I don't think this album is bloated like people say. It's 1 hour 9 minutes. Longer than most pop records but hardly overbearing.
I think this could have probably been just the first 10 tracks and then the last three and it would have been a lot more concise and better received imo. 11-15 drags for me
It drags a bit but I like every song. It's just not that easy to listen to an album as long as this one. But it is a recurrent problem in hip hop / r&b, and most of the times, it doesn't bother me anyway. Especially when I'm in the car, because in this case, albums go way too fast and I have to put them on repeat lol.
it definitely drags. its overstuffed. there's no good reason for the album to almost hit 70 minutes. its not a concept record, it doesnt tell a story, its just a bunch of weeknd songs. they're pretty much all good songs, some are way way way way better than the rest, but id say 4-5 of them could have been cut from the standard and tacked on as bonus tracks. other than that, its his best album yet and while it doesnt touch hob or echoes for me its pretty much on par with thursday, although i think id take "gone" over anything here.
Bought tickets. Super excited. The Harry styles presale went on at the exact same time tho so I spent like $350 in tickets today

I understand the influence R. Kelly's music has had on Abel, but I really wish he wouldn't cover him in light of everything R. Kelly has done.
