yeah imo this is super uneven. i guess no song is outright bad but some of them don't do much of anything? "love to lay" is a jam tho
It's full of backhanded compliments, here's a few examples: "A handful of slowed-up love jams, despite sounding insincere as all fuck, are pretty enough" "and Tesfaye, to his credit, sounds almost at home as his guest Kendrick Lamar does" "this is satisfying, well-executed pop music from someone who, once upon a time, was capable of something more" Those quotes are literally the definition of backhanded compliments, lol.
The only one of those that is a backhanded compliment is the Kendrick one. The other two are straightforward comments. This is absurd. Disagree with the review all you want but to act like it takes a huge dump on this album is to completely misread the actual written words.
