Interesting that he played 8 songs from it live in September. I thought for sure it’d be a 2024 release
I really, really hope this album ends up coming together well after how underwhelming this rollout has been None of the singles are even really hitting and there's way less effort put into the visuals than there were for the last two albums, it doesn't feel like a trilogy closer AT ALL. I'm almost hoping those songs don't make the album
Been listening to the original three mixtapes and reading up about how House of Balloons could have been longer, but he gave some of the beats, and half a song, to Drake and worked with him for Take Care. ANYWAY, at the risk of listening to Drake, I listened to those songs in a row and kept that mindset. Just interesting to listen to HOB, then immediately the 5 songs, and how the vibes are the same but Drake obviously made them his own thing. Shot For Me, Crew Love, Good Ones Go Interlude, Practice, The Ride
It sucks I don’t have any excitement for this even though i did like some of the singles. The hype just isn’t there when other albums got my attention.
Yeah I’m hoping the singles are the weakest tracks here or that they’re better improved in album context. I was whelmed by Take My Breath until he added that 90 second 0PN intro lol
"Musically, the “Hurry Up Tomorrow” album includes plenty of the sleek, chrome-plated hooks that have characterized many of the Weeknd’s biggest hits. But to a degree he hasn’t really done before, it also includes explorations of other genres: classic R&B, straight pop, acoustic guitars, fast beats and an epic, sweeping song, probably the finale, that recalls Prince’s “Purple Rain.”" My hype is back
The singles aren't doing it for me either. It'd suck if he closed the trilogy AND retired the moniker on an underwhelming album, but I try to have faith the rest will deliver.
I do think if he doesn't ramp up the promo a LOT in the next week or so his first week numbers aren't going to look great, it doesn't feel like this is coming in less than two weeks
could not give the remotest shit how the album sells, chartwatching is a very strange habit hope the album's good though. after forcibly ignoring him a long time I came around on the last album (aided by a friend of mine turning out to be an unexected superfan)
I’m still cautiously optimistic on this one. Dawn FM was his best since HoB that I can’t imagine he didn’t learn the right lessons from that
