I fell asleep and woke up long enough to type that above but ya, last night was magical listening to possibly the best indie rock album of the 2000s with my favorite people
I think they're both masterpieces, but Reunion Tour has a bit of an edge for me because I think it's a little tighter thematically, and it has "Sun In An Empty Room," which is my favorite Weakerthans song.
Sun is a great song. RT has the best opening/closing combo on any Weakerthans album too, pretty easily I am bad, can confirm
Hey Zac, might I offer up "Phantom Power". I think it's my favourite and what I feel is a really great represenation of all of their sounds. Contains classics like "Poets", "Fireworks" and all-timer "Bobcaygeon". "Road Apples" and "Fully Completely" are essentially greatest hits albums as they contain so many popular songs, but it's very much The Hip doing their straight-up rock n' roll schtick (which is also great, don't get me wrong). PP has an awesome mix of that and their other sounds. Also, it's Johns favourite too haha. I'd also like to agree with the others and say that "Yer Favourites", the greatets hits, is very in-depth and comprehensive, another good place to start.
Awesome, thanks! I don't really like starting with greatest hits to be completely honest, so I'll go for this one. Having a good mix is oretty ideal for starting off. Especially if it comes with two seals of approval haha!
Coulda told you awhile ago you'd like this! You seem to like very candid and earnest music and the Weakerthans are that x1000 1UP high score
Well then, why didn't you??! Actually, tbh I've always had a feeling this would be a band I'd really like if I gave an honest listen to. Just took a while for that to happen. I need to listen to their other stuff soon.
This forum's lack of a Tragically Hip thread upsets me. This place is kind of like the adopted Hip thread... Whole country shut down to watch their last concert tonight. The end of Grace, Too killed me.
