    Virtute* ;)

  2. Packing up my turntable for my move on Saturday, and of course Reunion Tour was the last record I played. "Sun In An Empty Room" is a perfect song right now.

Left & Leaving soundtracked the first time I moved out of my parents home. It was so liberating. That album and Reconstruction Site hold many memories for me.

Virtute the Cat Explains Her Departure is one of the single most emotional songs I've ever heard and it's about a fucking cat.

    You could say it's puurrfect.

    Give what you can.

Haha yep. What makes it even more tough is that at least to me, John's voice is just so calming. The soothing effect that has on me juxtaposed with the crushingly sad lyrical content is always jarring.

Here's another song that makes my heart shrivel and glow at the same time.

Yeah that solo record is a beauty. I don't know why I don't listen to it more often. Really a shame the Weakerthans called it quits.

On another note. They did an album as Jim Bryson's band a few years ago called The Falcon Lake Incident which is really great. Jim also put out a new album earlier this year that's really great. Should all check it out.

Hahahaha I was seriously just getting ready to mention that. Bryson is a killer songwriter and I absolutely love The Falcon Lake Incident. It's a shame hardly anyone caught wind of that record in the states. And yeah, Somewhere We Will Find Our Place is a stellar album as well.

To those who don't know what we're talking about:

As for them calling it quits, I'm holding out hope that they'll be back in some shape or form. They're older now and have families and all the responsibilities that come along with that, but I doubt that we've heard the last of them. Far as I know they're all on good terms, but doing the band just became impractical. And even if they really are done, it seems unlikely John will ever stop writing songs, and as long as the internet exists, odds are we'll be able to get ahold of them. That's good enough for me.

Jim lives like a 20 minute drive from me. Nice to see someone from Chicago supporting Canadian artists.

  10. I'm kind of ashamed that I've never listened to that record with Jim Bryson. I should get on that.

yeah MCS came earlier but theyre my favorite band and the Weakerthans influence in their music is felt even in Panic Stations.

Yeah Modern Baseball is a good one too. Especially on this new record. I also get some Saves The Day influence in there too.

I once went to see this band with Constantines and Sylvie when I didn't know them and only wanted to hear Left and Leaving, I think I left afterward. Knowing what a masterpiece Reconstruction Site is, that is such a shame. Fortunately I got to see them again another time with Sylvie at their Reunion Tour album release, what a show.
