An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

L&L is better front to back but the best like 5 songs on Recon are some of the best ever made. both albums are absolutely staggering achievements in songwriting

I was about to come in here and say the exact opposite of this. Recon is a great listen but no song on it would make it onto my top 100, but L&L has 4.

haha well. I'm certainly not saying L&L has no songs up there, My Favourite Chords is my favourite song ever some days. just that Recon has some astonishing highs and some stuff I'm lukewarm on

  4. Yeah L&L both has higher highs and is better front to back for me. Not a knock on Reconstruction Site though, just that the first five songs on L&L are perfect, genuinely flawless. Pretty much the high watermark pun absolutely intended for emo/pop punk/riffy melodic indie rock/whatever in my book

Funny enough Reconstruction Site was my entry point for the band and John’s music though

I do wonder sometimes if Left title track is the greatest set of lyrics in the history of the genre. has to be in the conversation at least

Greatest lyricist of all time. Has JKS ever written any fiction or anything?

I personally prefer Reconstruction Site out of the Weakerthans discography.

Let me tell you all about reunion tour

  8. Checking this out on recommendation from a friend. Jason Tait played drums and John did some production work on it. Kind of sounds like John doing a country record at times.

  11. "I don't like to leave Winnipeg anymore" makes it seem like I probably won't get another chance to see him without traveling (which isn't in the cards for me this year). I feel really lucky that I got to see such an incredible show in Chicago in 2019.

I didn't realize John and Christine had a page under that name. Good to see he's playing again, even if it's not in my area!

Might be old news but it looks like they have a couple albums on Bandcamp under the Vivat Virtute name, and the song "Do Not Worry" is John singing with Greg and Jason as the backing band.

Love to see him playing shows. Sad to hear I gotta spend 10 hours traveling just to go to one.

Everyday we get further away from Utopia (the Weakerthans doing a reunion tour)

That story made me think, as I so often do: Chris Hannah and John Samson Fellows, truly a study in contrasts.

Can’t relate I’m 35 and still finally releasing the album I’ve tried and failed to get out there since I was 25 lol

Honestly, I’m not surprised by Samson Fellows’ life trajectory, hah. That was a great profile piece.

Just got around to reading this. What a great piece. Happy that John is doing what he loves and is taking such an intentional approach to his creative efforts. I've wanted a new album for years but after reading this it sort of made my heart hurt. He's given us some great stuff, and it's enough
