It’s so perfect and even more so now. Sums up everything I feel and have struggled with the last 4 months and the last 3 years.
happy 20th birthday to this album that means a ton to me, more every time I listen to it and am older tbh
was just thinking as I often do about how "Fire Door" is probably the best song anyone has ever written
here's a really good Left and Leaving anniversary piece: It Holds Up: The Weakerthans—'Left and Leaving' - The Alternative as a more casual fan, I learned a lot from reading this!! a lot of great song analysis
Andy Hull from MO covered "Letter in Icelandic from the Ninette San" on their Patreon and man it is incredible
These guys are so good. Going through them for the first time. I’m obsessed with Plea From a Cat Named Virtue.
A John album this year would be a nice surprise! He's pretty quiet between releases, so it could happen right? ...Right?
I had the privilege of seeing The Weakerthans twice in Regina (2005 and 2007 - along with some other underrated Canadian greats in Constantines and Sylvie) - perfect concerts It took me far too long to get into them fully but Reconstruction Site in particular is a flawless album
Anyone looking for another awesome and underrated Canadian band to discover should check out Constantines. They're John's favourite band I believe. (And Bry Webb's solo material is also wonderful.)
I thought three years back it seemed a new Constantines album was on the horizon and a new Bry Webb but neither has released anything in years or any news. Love both and so different Bry and his work solo vs. the Gaslight tinged stuff with Constantines.
John and Christine are doing a Zoom performance tonight. Looks like it's free and public; you just have to register. Welcome! You are invited to join a webinar: Active Voice Presents: John K. Samson & Christine Fellows. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email about joining the webinar.
I have recently really gotten into the Weakerthans and A Plea From a Cat Name Virtute was the first song that really grabbed me. I nearly lost it when I finally figured out further into the the Weakerthans universe that there are two (and a half?) more songs about Virtute the cat. A masterclass on songwriting, John is a genius!
