The Weakerthans’ frontman, John K. Samson, has announced a new solo album called Winter Wheat. The album will be out on October 21st. John sat down to talk with the AV Club about the new album, and stream “Postdoc Blues.”

And while Weakerthans fans have been held over by Samson’s 2012 solo album, Provincial, Winter Wheat has something that record didn’t: The Weakerthans rhythm section. Co-produced by [Jason] Tait—as well as Samson’s partner and collaborator, Christine Fellows—Winter Wheat sees three-fourths of The Weakerthans core turning up throughout the album.

Can't wait, loved Provincial. Heard this tune as well as some others when he opened for Bahamas last year (Jason is playing drums for Bahamas so he even came out and they cruised through this and Everything Must Go).

Anyone looking for a fix, if you haven't already heard "The Falcon Lake Incident", you should check it out. It's a Jim Bryson album but The Weakerthans are the backing band, and it's great (as well as Jim's latest album if you're digging deeper).

the little riff in the beginning reminds me of the song Sun in the Morning by Future Islands.
