After 48 hours, this is in my personal pantheon of autumn albums. All the way up with Futures and Red and 22, A Million.

Three songs in this is pretty easily their most immediate album. My dude sounds a lot like Dylan on change

As most of their records are, this thing really explodes on headphones. There must be 8 actual guitar tracks on Harmonia's Dream that I can't even hear that well on my Sonos, but they come through on my cans.

This band feels like The National, where any of their recent work could be your favorite and nobody could really dispute you.

This whole album is so good. Victim is an early standout track for sure.

This was to be expected, but I am obsessed with this album.

I don’t know why but fall is my favorite season to associate albums with. Winter is pretty close though. Anyway, I agree with you, and a deeper understanding was always one of my favorite autumn records and this crushes it imo.

    "Victim" is the one.

Also, John Mayer needs to work with Shawn Everett.

The difference between the "Lost 80s"-signifying production on Sob Rock and what The Killers + TWOD have done is so stark.

I do really dig the ballad version of "Last Train Home" though, and the video performance is wonderful. He really should do another Where The Light Is level live production.

I still really like Sob Rock, but it definitely seems like he could have committed more to the sound/era he was paying tribute to.

Would love another Where the Light Is.

Rings Around My Father’s Eyes kinda bugs me. I like the song but it seems like a retread of You Don’t Have to Go in a way. They both have some similar chords and intervals in their vocal melodies.

Where to begin with this album? The tracking is flawless. The seasonal timing of the release is perfect. Adam sounds spectacular. The atmosphere, the storytelling, the highs, the lows. I can't stop thinking about this album.

I don't know what it is about this record, but it feels timeless. It's hard to explain, but I feel like you could drop this into any decade in rock history and you would have a mutual understanding of its greatness. The album sounds generic (in its literal sense meaning of a genre), but there is only one band today who can make this album, and it's The War on Drugs. Being utterly singular and outstanding in a recognizably distinct subgenre is absolutely incredible.

Summed it up perfectly. I had no hype for this record and now there's a good chance it sneaks into my top 10 aoty list.

  20. Very unlikely that I'm going to end up liking anything more than this this year. And that's despite my favorite band (MMJ) putting out their best record in over a decade a week before this came out.

This year is stacked with releases that I love. Low and Bo Burnham’s records are still above this for me, but I did not expect this album to infiltrate my soul like it has.

Not sure how it’ll all shake out for me but there’s a lot of good stuff I’m eyeing for my top 5. especially this

I think this will end up being lower than I expected. I really like it, love it even….it’s just a notch below my favorite stuff from them.

  24. Never really listened to this band before but the singles off this are really damn good.

Also they really came out on top in that weird one-sided beef Mark 'Rapist' Kozelek had with them lol

It’s hard to compare an album that’s been out for a week to a collection of albums that have been out for many, many years. Lost In The Dream is damn near the best album I’ve ever heard and I have a ton of memories attached to it that gives it an advantage over this. Same with a deeper understanding and even slave ambient. I have no doubt though that I’ll forge that sort of connection with this since I love it so much I won’t stop listening to it anytime soon
