Yeah...at least it's...interesting. Which is something I haven't said about this show in three years.
Also, if they're replacing Carl with Judith then I am HERE for it. Not gonna watch it. But I'll say I'm HERE for it.
In the comics, are the Whisperers before or after the time jump? Was the time jump in the comics six years? or less time? How far away are we from Commonwealth?
The Whisperers come after the time jump, but the time jump occurs right after Negan is imprisoned. Carl is older and visits Negan in his jail cell where you see him looking all disheveled with a long beard. The time jump in the comics is sort of unclear because Kirkman has changed his answer a few times. It has ranged from a few years to five or so. Commonwealth is still a ways off. We still have the entire Whisperer storyline to run through and, from what I understand, this season will most likely end with the controversial “Whisperers kill off several mains and put their heads on spikes along the border between “their territory” and the Alexandrians” story. If true, next season will probably be the Whisperer War which could mean the Commonwealth might not happen until maybe season eleven? Maybe Twelve? Who knows anymore.
Jesus Christ. So we have to deal with just another flat out war between communities for the 8th time? I thought we underwent the time jump already, that's why I was asking. I thought the time jump in the comics came after Negan being captured and it's clear that he's been imprisoned for quite some time given his look. Any chance they expedite the Whisperers storyline seeing as things have clearly changed with Rick leaving and blowback from fans about two seasons spent on the Saviors?
I honestly don’t know if this show can handle another community war so soon. The war with Negan was so poorly done that another war may just turn people away.
They probably have plans with Judith for the next 10 years. Once she becomes a teenager they’ll turn her into a protagonist.
Yeah this is another change from the comic to the show. This season they chose to do two separate time jumps, the first one to deal with Rick’s send off, and then the second to deal with “What Comes After” as the title of the episode suggests. As far as the Whisperers are concerned, God I just don’t know. I would think they’d be cautious about jumping right into another community war but that leaves me wondering if they’ll learn from their mistakes by expediting it or if they’ll lean on the familiar crutch of dragging out the lead up to the war thereby making next season a seven month excursion of tedium before assaulting the viewers with another disappointing war the following year. At this point I have no idea.
I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if they brought back Rick later on for only a handful of episodes (if that) just to have him literally hand off the baton like “this is your wooorrrrld now, Judith.”
It's pretty funny that a six year time jump will probably be the best thing this show has done since Terminus lol
really confused how its only a 6 year time jump, yet judith is somehow old enough to be shooting a shotgun?
Yeah she’d only be about ten years old at this point. I’m guessing it’s one of those things you’d ask them and they’d be like *shrug*
how old was Carl supposed to be when this whole thing started? he was toting a revolver pretty quickly in season 2, granted it's not a shotgun....
the time jump makes a lot of sense if they want to make judith the eventual protagonist, because they can hire one new actress and kind of let her grow up on the show like Chandler Riggs did. I'd be all for that honestly. Depending how they handle this new time jump, it might actually get me back into this show.
The main characters are gonna be Hershel and Judith. For the next decade of wandering and fighting communities
If there is going to be a war against the Whisperers then I really hope they at least take a different approach stylistically - there is so much potential with the Whisperers to go in a more horror-oriented direction rather than standard "action" gunfights etc like they've done for every fight so far. Also, a child wielding a shotgun is laughable, I hope they do not do that.
I kind of respected what they did with Terminus in Season 5. I think most people (who didn't read the comics or avoided spoilers) thought the entire season was going to be about Terminus and they wrapped up that storyline in like, the first episode, which was crazy because the entire Season 4 was a lead-up to Terminus. I could see them doing something similar with The Whisperers, maybe not in one episode, but hopefully just a half season at most. I don't read the comics, so I don't know much about the Whisperers or its storyline, but there's no way they can drag out another all-out war for a year or two again.
They casted some pretty big actors to play some of the lead whisperers though so I think they will want to keep them around for a while.
I don’t find it unreasonable at all that a ~10 year old would be using a shotgun. I’m from Minnesota and I believe the age someone can legally deer hunt is 12. It’s not crazy to think that a kid growing up in the zombie apocalypse would learn how to shoot at a young age. Of all the unbelievable shit that happens in the show I feel like this is fairly mild
