I honestly hate it. I still watch though because I'm so far invested and want to see the end game, but goddamn is each episode such a chore to sit through.
This half of the season was much less of a chore than usual imo, but still when I look back I recall individual moments that were good rather than whole episodes. It annoys me that when I look back over early seasons, I look at episodes that I thought were average then as being very good compared to the episodes we get now - a show of this stature should not have a problem like that with the amount of $$$ available to them. Surely it is not out of the question for them to, at the very least, hire the best writers television has to offer?!
Did you read the comics? I was pretty invested in them but finally got to a point where I just gave up. Alot of the stories seem like they were recycled; show feels the same way. Maybe just stop watching and go back when they announce a final season and see how it all ends.
I did not read the comics but definitely share the sentiment that much of the show feels recycled. My biggest problem with the show is there is just WAY too many characters now and most of them are awful and uninteresting and have taken the spotlight away from the characters we 'lived' with for the first 5 to 6 seasons. Combine those two things with just some truly silly writing, the show is just painful to watch most nights. I can't just stop watching a show. I did however stop watching Fear TWD halfway through Season 2, but I wasn't that invested in it by that point. Eight years is a LONG time to invest yourself into a television show and then just give up. I stuck through all 8 seasons of Dexter even though it had some pretty bad seasons (especially season 8) but Season 7 was like, my 3rd favorite season of the series so you never know when it'll turn around. Maybe the new showrunner will energize the series, but at this point (and for years now) they really need to work on an end game. I'm stunned that Andrew, Norman and Lauren are still doing this. They have to be getting other opportunities and/or sick of playing the same character for 8 years. Lauren I believe IS doing another show next year so TWD needs to realize that they don't have these actors forever and it'd be best for everyone if they just wrapped things up soon.
Finally got around to finishing up this season. It's been a while since I've been so letdown by a finale for a season. I was sure that they were going to set it up that the next season would be the final season, but boy was I wrong. I'm like the person who posted above, I've invested so much time into the show at this point (been watching since day 1) that I can't give up on it, but man I was really hoping next season was gonna be it, but this "civil war" story line is going to drag it out for at least another two seasons.
I had been watching since day one but gave it up recently. It was such a chore and finally I was like ok why am I doing this lol
They killed Simon who was much more entertaining as a bad guy, I really don't think I'll make it through next season
Apparently there was a lot of teases for the Whisperers in the finally. I doubt the civil war garbage lasts the whole first half.
I mean what is the point of a conflict between the main characters, they can't even get killed off by Zombies or Negan, like anything's gonna happen to them lol Just rename the show Spinning Our Wheels
If it doesn't look like there is an end in sight about halfway through next season I'll probably just give up until it's finished and then maybe weekend binge watch it at some point.

Garbage lady’s real name beginning with A was one even I caught and I don’t know too much about the whisperers. Rick pointing at the herd and saying something like “that’s our enemy now” too, I was like c’mon!
I should just rewatch the first 3 episodes of season 5 with Terminus anytime I want to watch something Walking Dead lol
I don't remember the last time I posted in this thread. It popped up on my notifications for whatever reason *shrug*
They keep teasing that Helicopter and the lady with the keys to a better future and etc....I wanna know what's going on there
There were a few Whisperer easter eggs sprinkled throughout the season. Earlier on they ran across a walker that appeared to be skinned and Ezekiel asked “what befell this creature?” Carol then says they don’t have time for that right now (lol). The finale had the wooden posts lined up along the valley and the giant walker herd. I can’t remember which character said it (either Jerry or Ezekiel), but someone asked “have you ever seen one that big before?” to which Rick replies “No. things are changing.” Later he points to the herd and tells the Saviors “They’re coming for us.” So a few things they’re beating you over the head with, but basically they’ve never seen a herd that big before because it’s not just the dead in that herd and they’re being moved by an outside force (or inside force in this case). Then to have Rick point to them and literally say “They’re coming for us” like heeeeeeeeeyyyyy. As for the lady and the helicopter, I’m assuming they’re doing a very early tease of the latest arc from the comics The Commonwealth. A new community they discover in Ohio with over 50,000 people. My guess is that they’re potentially going to tie that storyline in with the Whisperers so that they can maybe get to that a little quicker. I’m not super hopeful about this because the show is what it is, but I am at least interested to see if Angela Kang moves the story along a little quicker after all the criticism the show received for this Savior plotline. With that said, I would hope this Maggie thing simply ends the way it does in the comics. Maggie is unhappy Negan is still alive, but then Gregory feels she’s distracted enough to try and murder her and take the Hilltop back. He gets caught in the act and she publicly hangs him for his treachery. After that she realizes there are other matters to attend to so she just moves on. As for Negan, in the comics he helps fight the Whisperer war. He defends Alexandria and Rick. Rick thanks him for it after the war is over, but then tells him he cannot stay. So Negan is exiled. The last we saw of him, he was living as a nomad out in the wilderness. At first he’d found a new bat, wrapped it in barbed wire and decided he could become Negan again. Then Maggie hunts him down and holds him at gunpoint. He kneels for her and tearfully begs her to just do it, saying this is what he wants and that he can’t go on like this anymore. Maggie finally has a moment of clarity and realizes what Rick was working toward. She puts her gun down and says no. She tells him she finally understands he isn’t worth it and leaves him in his sorrow. At the end of the issue, Negan throws his new bat in a fire and walks away. I was never a big fan of him, but that ending was actually okay with me.
Isn't there a time jump in the comics? Are we expecting a time jump for Season 9? Better yet, can we just jump to the series finale?
I felt that same way until I gave up earlier this season. Have never looked back. If you really care, you can read spoliers the next day and get let down in 2 minutes rather than 60 minutes lol
I think I really am done with this show. Thinking about it, it was really not okay that we got a 2 season build up of "ALL OUT WAR" for 0 people to die in the final show down and that random scene with Maggie, Jesus and Daryl pushed it over the edge. It's a nice place to stop because if you take out the Maggie scene, it plays like a finale where everyone is going to live in peace now and Negan gets what he deserves.
