Loaded is easily my favorite. Not just because it's the most song-centered and least experimental, but mostly because Lou's skills as a writer were absolutely peaking. "Rock and Roll", "Sweet Jane", "Oh, Sweet Nuthin'" and "New Age" are indisputably among the best things he ever wrote.

high praise, I'll check it out today. part of what kept me from it for so long was not hearing a lot about it either way from the other (few) Velvet fans I know. and also me assuming that Loaded was one of the Doug Yule as main songwriter era albums until fairly recently lol

loaded is probably second to last for me but it’s still great. just don’t really like yule’s contributions that much. turns them into a different band.

oh the first velvets song I heard is on this record haha. I'm sticking with you was on the Juno soundtrack which shaped my music taste a lot. these are just first impressions but this album is great, like the self titled but the pace picked up. not inherently better but refreshing. there's a sweetness that doesn't become super saccharine (besides maybe Doug on the first song, maybe). sweet nuthin has some proto pavement vibes lol

Honestly, very few songs give me an instant jolt of joy/endorphins like "Rock and Roll" these days. All of Loaded is a first-call choice for sunny days or windows down, but that one in particular.

I’ve been listening to this band a lot lately. I remember I first got into them by hearing Pale Blue Eyes in Adventureland.

Trying to decide if I’m ready for a cache of early demos yet or want to keep going through his catalog before I get there
