cannot wait. hope it doesn’t spend too much time on the warhol era.

This is as sensory an experience as a Velvet Underground document needs to be, a streamlined abstraction. Todd Haynes understands the core of his subject matter so well. I’m a significant fan of him and the Velvet Underground, this is one of the strongest works of the year.

Do you all think the last 30 minutes being kinda rushed and abrupt was intentional? Like the end of the band was?

Best part of the movie tbh

I’m not sure, but I think it recognized the departure of Cale was where the narrative inherently loses steam, and while the band was still often great, it was a new era that wasn’t the focus of the film. That said I would love an extended cut, not that I anticipate any.

White Light/White Heat is the best album of the bunch.

I’m not sure what you guys are expecting if you haven’t seen it yet, but, despite the Todd Haynes of it all (and he does some really cool shit), this is ultimately a pretty straightforward “rise and fall” band doc that doesn’t really focus on the nitty gritty of making the albums very much. And even when it does, I’d say the only album that gets less discussion than WL/WH is Squeeze. They pretty much just lump it in with the first record, which gets a lot more focus.

Tucker's anti-hippie rant made me think she was going to start going into her less than ideal modern politics but they pulled back just in time.

yeah I knew they wouldn't bring that up or Nico's nazi sympathies but it was definitely on my mind

this was really, truly incredible. doesn't feel hyperbolic at all to call it the best rock doc since dig! in 2004
