especially since they can't do those old songs justice anymore. honestly, they should just play "taste of ink" and maybe "all that i've got" and one or two others from the second album, and then just focus on newer stuff.
I bet the majority of the people in the crowd for this tour aren't even aware they put out music after their third album. They're giving the people what they want.
The Used has an incredibly loyal fanbase that the majority has continued to follow to their most recent record. I can confidently say they are not giving the people what they want.
They're playing 10,000 capacity ampitheatres "co headlining" with a band that has a much larger fan base. Sure there may be like 1000 die hards in the crowd, but the majority are there to hear the hits. If this loyal fanbase was as large as you think it is, the streaming numbers and record sales for those albums would be much bigger than they are. This is just like when people complain about Blink 182 not doing deep cuts, and then when they bust out something like Wasting Time at an arena show 2/3rds of the audience sits down with their arms crossed.
i miss seeing them live back then so much... and i was around in the earrrrrly days when Bert was puking all over the place too haha. fucking crazy live shows back then haha
Their last tour pre-pandemic was very heavy on deep cuts, which was awesome. I think they could have thrown in one or two more new songs in this set no problem. If they gotta keep the set short just cut Listening and Blood on My Hands.
Exactly the reason we didn’t bother with the anniversary tours they did a few years ago. The energy just isn’t the same as their glory years 01 - 07ish. Haha I remember Bert puking on stage. Listening back now you can definitely hear the stain on his voice. He really should have learned to scream without fucking up his voice so bad! Also sucks not having Quinn and Branden in the band anymore.
throwback to some interview i read with quinn in guitar world magazine in early 00s or something. Remember at the end of the article the interviewer said something like "anything else you want to add?" And he responded with something like "just that joseph smith and the mormon religion is the biggest fucking lie on the planet." My heart broke at that moment (as I was very mormon). *Fast-forward 15 yrs Same quinn. Same.
I would love to see them play some stuff from Heartwork, I've definitely returned to it a lot since release. The promo clips do sound good tho, I'd see em no matter what if they were nearby.
Apparently it's been 12 years today since Artwork was released which is funny because I randomly listened to it earlier in full for the first time in years.
Fave deluxe songs?? Some of mine are Night-Sea Journey, Blood Meridian, Operation Me, See You in Hell
Two listens in I'd say Night Sea Journey is easy fave, then probably Playing Victim, River Stay and Operation Me. I wish those were tracks 2 through 5 on the main album hah.
Really like seeing The Used's recording updates on Instagram stories. Seems like Bert is screaming a lot more than I was expecting he would on a new record. Pretty excited! The Used, Jeph, Feldman and Joey are all posting stories almost daily.
Definitely down with everything they're doing. Interesting that Bert is screaming a ton though, I just feel like he wouldn't be able to do that much live, but who knows. They're on a hot streak and all the clips they're posting seem great. I like that they've been adding features, I really loved the features on Heartwork.
In Love and Death and Lies both had some great screaming parts too. I think he genuinely had the best scream I've ever heard back then so it's very sad he can't really do it the same way anymore.
I agree, I think Bert’s scream is probably one of the best ever. Definitely my favorite. Bummer that he can’t anymore, but he still sounds great live I think. Jepha’s screaming isn’t too great though.
