My Chem and the Used were popular in the same time period with cross over audiences. While My Chem were a little more theatrical and culty trendy in a societal way. I see how they're connected but I could also see how someone could find the Used more emotionally mature or legitimate. For me I loved both of them. I've outgrown My Chem. Find a lot of the stuff personally cringey. Still listen to the Used daily probably.
The Used have two perfect albums but let's cool it, they also wrote this "I'm watching closely just to see So I can rest in peace I put my face close to make sure you're not breathing You look so nice, so pretty dress Your painted skin can say the rest Until they bury you I won't believe it Breathing! Not Breathing! Breathing! Not Breathing! How can it feel so right when it's so wrong? Now that you're dead, it's kinda turnin' me on You're not with Jesus Christ, you're just gone Now that you're dead, it's kinda turnin' me on Breathing! Not Breathing! Breathing" Lol
Was curious about that song so I Googled and found two things: William Control is on that song, because of course he is. And someone on SongMeanings called it "a modern necrophilic classic" and I need to go walk into the ocean now.
They haven’t had any music I’ve liked in a long time so I decided to check this out, there’s some good songs on this but overall it’s just fine.
When I was younger, during William controls first album tour I think? My friend got hit on by him when she was underage. He said something extremely creepy to her like “my my, how you’ve aged into a beautiful lady”. Dude was always fucking gross, only thing that changed was that he’s a maga troll now.
It's a shame because that "You're not with Jesus Christ, you're just gone" line would be pretty good in a song that was actually about mourning, and not about squick.
Even if the post is gone now I will always remember to reference the gold globe The Used are entitled to As for the actual album, it's fine. There's some good fun stuff on it, there's some very questionable decisions on it. The chorus to Numb might be one of the laziest choruses I've heard in recent memory lol, and I don't even hate the song.
I think the lazy choruses in general are the main issue I have with the album. There's a lot of stuff I like otherwise.
Just saw The Used tonight in CT. Bert came out holding the trans flag up which I thought was awesome. New songs sounded great. I cried. The end.
I still really, really like: Worst I’ve Ever Been Pinky Swear House of Sand Giving Up I like: Headspace Dopamine Top of the World Cherry I just like the chorus of Dancing with a Brick Wall.
Every few years the earth goes through tumultuous periods, society breaks down and individuals are pitted against each other. But finally a light shines through, a light that can conquer strife and bring together people under one banner. This light has a sharpened edge. This light is The Used, and they are gracing earth with a new album. Finally, the earth is healing again.
