The songs weren't fully what I wanted but I loved how it sounded generally. Enemy was such a step back from where I thought they'd go
That's exactly what I thought too. And I remember reading interviews that reference Feldman telling Bert to simplify his lyrics and that kind of rubbed me the wrong way. So many of those songs on IE had a lot of potential that was held back by the production.
Like at least 50% of the production complaints would be addressed if they didn't tune the snare drum to sound like hitting fucking Tupperware
While being really depressed and full of anxiety I took a bus across the country during the night from Sunday to Monday and listened to this album for the first time. I loved it instantly. Since Sunday I'm going through one of the worst weeks of my life and this is really helping me get through it. It will definitely be in my top five this year and imo is The Used's first good record in ten years. I'm just worried that I won't be able to listen to it when I start feeling better again. I'm packing all of my emotions into these songs right now.
This. Have negative opinions, discuss the album, but when the same people visit threads to constantly shitpost it's honestly really boring. I don't even care about this album, but that's just my opinion.
It's about as boring as the same people saying "OMG AOTY this is the best rock album ever!!" But yeah, we're in the wrong, sorry we'll stop having fun on the internet
I really tried to push through and give this an honest try, but it’s just really really bad. From the mix, to the production, not done well at all. I know people are gonna say it’s supposed to sound unedited and raw, but this band doesn’t pull off that sound.
Exactly...and I feel if the songs were better, they might be able to escape the bad producing/mix, but the songs are just OK at best.
I don't think anyone other than one poster has been that hyperbolic, everyone else who likes this has backed up their praise with reasoning and good discussion. Sorry if that's boring for you lol
I just don't really think this thread would have received that many replies if not for the shit posts
Just because it’s raw “real” rock music, doesn’t make it good. I love dirty raw production types, this was mixed awfully and comes out dull and flat.
thats not even close to true lol. funnily enough theres probably been more posts from yall saying "stop shitposting" than any actual discussion. not to mention the massive leap in logic that mocking one hyperbolic user somehow equates to mocking anyone that likes this album.
Starting to really enjoy Rise Up Lights now. Ugh I'm so happy with this record, it's all I want to listen to. Really thought for a while that Imaginary Enemy could be their last record, so I'm still just kind of in shock that they came back with a record this terrific. Don't know how my ranking is going to change but this is definitely going to shake it up.
For real. Justin definitely brings a different sound to the table but somehow it still feels like The Used.
