lol I’m not defending anything. I actually agree there should be more constructive discussion about the album, and that’s on both sides – TUG’s posts in here are nearly as bad as the posts bashing the album. That said, if someone thinks it’s garbage, “there was a lot of work put into it” is a dumb, lazy response to that.
Personally I love the more technical post-hardcore sound they're going for, alongside what I see as some of the most honest and well-written lyricism from Bert to date (who usually isn't someone I look to for a ton of insight). As someone who lost a close family member to suicide a lot of the themes really resonated with me, and I could hear the more "personal" approach to lyric writing he mentioned in interviews pay off a lot here. Musically I think a lot of these songs are great, they're not all as immediately hooky as their old stuff but there's a lot of genuinely weird and compelling moments to my ears. Like I said I'm still torn on the production because I think there's some more aggressive moments that benefit from the raw sound, but other moments where the "epic" sound would be better suited by a totally different production job.
Apparently this post bothered some people so I’m sorry if anyone felt like I was personally attacking their behavior in this thread, once again I was just making a general observation and wasn’t trying to accuse anyone individually.
Honestly if you take nostalgia out of the equation this may be their best album. Might be a little early to tell though. Def the best since ilad at least. Only song I am not super crazy about is cold way telescreen and maybe funeral post. Little worried about album sales. It is sitting way down in the top album charts in iTunes and I don't think it ever even breached the top ten. Hopefully it sells well so they can continue to make new music. I think it would be great if they worked with ross again.
Seen a lot of great reviews for this and I thought the lead single was great. I'm gonna totally ignore everyone in here (according to one post none of you like it?) and check this out tonight.
Artists make close to nothing from album streams https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.th...otify-year-in-review-artist-payment-royalties
Joking aside, this album still isn't anywhere near good It meanders and is way too long. Nobody needs a 90 minute Used album. They aren't an interesting enough band musically to pull that off, and you can tell when listening to this.
This is definitely in contention for their best album for me, without a doubt my favorite they've done since ILAD at least.
No shit? My point is I'm surprised to see as much negativity as there is towards it. I mean, some people didn't like S/F either--there will always be people who don't like stuff--but it wasn't an overwhelming majority like this is. I'm just saying I'm surprised this is as negatively received as it is in this community.
I definitely need more time before I can say where this album will fall for me ranking wise, but I can 1000000% say it won't be above the first 2 or Artwork. But those are my 3 fave albums period and hold a lot of memories for me and really got me through some of the roughest years of my life so no surprise at all lol. I'm basically emotionally attached to those albums so it would be reallll hard for me to love an album more than those.
It'd be impossible for me to rank anything over the first two albums almost solely cause of how dynamic Bert's voice was. The best songs on this still don't touch I Caught Fire and the like but this is safely my 3rd favorite from them. Still a good deal below the first two. They're like Weezer to me, the first two albums are untouchable for them lol.
So how is an album that seems to be being viewed this negatively on 37 pages? Is it just 30 pages of shit posting and negativity plus the occasional person being like "I like this"? Cause that seems pretty stupid. If you don't like it (and I haven't even heard it yet), probably stop swamping a thread about the album and let those people who like it actually discuss it?
I think the first 15 pages or so were genuine discussion and anticipation for the album, then the post where TUG quoted and replied to himself happened right around the album leaking, and so that kinda snowballed into all kinds of trolling and shit posting to occur. That’s why I’m here, anyway.
So if we don't like something we aren't allowed to discuss why we dislike it? Every thread has to only be filled with positives about an album? Because shit, if that's so this site is going to be very boring
Yeah I have no prob when people have discussions on what they like about the album, what they don't like, if they just flat out hate everything about it, etc. For a couple days it was just getting a bit out of hand and the jokes and such took over and then things got off topic and made it kinda hard to have a discussion. I think that's what people are trying to say? Idk I'm not them so I obviously can't speak for them. But I'm totally 100% okay with negative comments. Otherwise there really isn't much discussion and it gets boring.
Idk right now After Laughter is still mine but we'll see how I feel in another month. Too early to tell with this one where it'll end up yet but it would be high on my list for sure. (I'm wayyy behind on new releases though so I gotta get to work on that!)
That's how After Laughter was for me! I keep a little spreadsheet of all the new music I listen to so I don't forget and all I wrote next to it was "HOLY SHIT!" haha. I still gotta give this a listen while reading along to the lyrics, though. That might change my mind.
