Really hope they add some more of these songs to their set, I'd love to hear something like The Nexus live. As of right now they're playing probably my two least favorite songs from this (Rise Up Lights and Over and Over Again).
For You, Over and Over again, Pretty Picture, Rise Up Lights and Broken Windows should all be cut. Everything else is new and exciting. The Bass grooves across this album are a 10/10. Hoping the new Converge album is stylistically new as well.
Yeah well, I think Moving the Mountain, Selfies in Aleppo and The Mouth of the Canyon speak to me more. I think Telescreen is the next video.
I spoke with Bert at length about The Canyon. Might shed some light on the record and how it came to be that others have yet to cover... Bert McCracken on The Used's new album: "I've never been more scared."
As much as I feel like the album is way too long, it seems like everyone's favorite songs are vastly different. Maybe that many songs was the right move. I like album more and more every day.
I haven't read anything about the album, but it still doesn't change the fact that I think that song is garbage.
The first song makes me tear up every time bc I'm an overly sensitive baby. Makes me think of my grandpa and then I just lose it
This seems to be critically revered by everybody but some of the posters in this thread. Why? I haven't dug in totally and in truth I haven't been that interested in this band since Artwork, but I really want to give this at try. What about this album don't you all like? I am shocked to be reading so many good reviews of a Used album from across the internet...I figured that would translate to a lot more fans on here. Not because good reviews = fans, I'm just surprised at the negativity on this site regarding the album.
I haven't listened yet but like the two singles released enough. I remember Artwork being hated on so much and that album is great, so I'll have to take all the negativity in here with a grain of salt.
Eh, it's just how the band has been viewed on AP/Chorus for years now. A string of albums that weren't great helps lead to a lot of hyperbolic hate.
i don't think everyone hates it here, probably about 50/50 right now. also yeah the album is a bit long and hard to get through, but i honestly don't really feel like anything here is filler. every song has a moment that seems too important to the whole album to cut.
I wish I knew what people liked about this album musically. Obviously the subject matter is personal and I completely understand connecting to it, but this thing just drags on and on and I don’t think there was one song I didn’t find just dull. I don’t hate the band either; I was a fan of both Artwork and Vulnerable, which weren’t generally well liked. Between Imaginary Enemy and this, though, I have little interest in the band anymore.
So I am halfway through. Didn't expect that opening track at all. It was actually a pretty beautiful song. The 1:40 before where they are talking in the studio sheds some background on the subject matter, but kind of distracting and a weird way to open the album. Pretty Picture is maybe my favorite so far, but only on Funeral Post. This is pretty good though. Reading through and reading stuff like "it's garbage" is def hyperbolic. Even if it's not for you, you can tell a lot of work went into these songs.
If a chef puts a lot of work into a dish and it still tastes like ass they don’t get a B because they put effort into it. I don’t think the albums garbage but I’m not gonna bat an eye at someone for having an opinion that isn’t mine
Just finished Upper Falls. What a great song. Is this album going to have all their softer ones being their best? That's the pattern I'm seeing so far.....
Verbiage like This is Garbage and everything along those lines isn't really criticism, but nice try. Are you two hanging around just to defend the hyperbole that went down a while back? It's ok, it doesn't need defending. Also I thought Coffee Eyes comments were super funny, but was more Satire of some users than bashing the album.
