Yeah, it sounded better on headphones when I listened on Spotify last night, but now that I've listened in the car, it may be the worst mixed album I've heard. It's mud. It reminds me of recording a cd off a boombox onto a cassette and this is like just how it would sound (excuse my old age reference) it sucks cause I really like the songs. It's so quiet too. I had to turn it up over the usual volume I listen to.
Yes quite a few people were actually talking about how much they liked it before the pendulum swung the other way.
I got a chance to listen to the album again while cooking dinner and yeah, I am really loving this album. Now I'm extra salty that their tour isn't coming anywhere near me. Hopefully they add another leg and get their butts to Ohio (if they even play that many new songs......usually it's 1 maybe 2.)
Yep still really like this album. Made me want to listen to a bunch of other raw post-hardcore albums... ATDI, Glassjaw, Letlive, etc.
I got my preorder in the mail today! I'm really excited bc I loved the design of the long sleeve shirt but I was nervous it would be gigantic bc they didn't have it in XS and it's men's. But it's a more fitted style so it actually looks really cute on yay! I've been wanting a Used long sleeve shirt or sweatshirt for ages so worked out perfect for me.
"and its hard to fully concentrate for 90 mins."- No, that's because the album's bad. Bands can pull off a 90 minute epic album and have it not be boring or 'hard to concentrate'....but this band cannot. As far as my tastes....the only mildly redeeming tracks on this are "Broken Windows", "Upper Falls", and "Over and Over". The "If I just start it over the same thing would happen"-prechorus part....is the only part I like in Broken Windows. Even then.....I'll forget about this album, and band, in like a month probably lol.
So I listened to the album once in alphabetical order, once in descending order from longest song length to shortest, and twice in ascending order based on which song titles had the most syllables and I gotta say this is an album that just keeps on giving. So many layers, it’s so dense every single note is packed full of things to digest. Just further cements that The Used are the only true rock band we have left.
It’s hard to say mostly because my spirit leaves my body every time I even think of listening to this album but alphabetical gives so much insight into the lyrical themes
after a couple more listens, i definitely don't think the production is doing this album many favors. it's not outright bad, i appreciate what they wanted to do with it, but there's some stuff that i love and some stuff that i hate. it definitely reminds me of say anythings latest albums, with how it sounds, and how it was received. very polarizing. i do like albums like this because i love the sound of a raw demo-like album, and a band that is going for something out there. but, i can't help but to imagine what the songs would sound like with great sounding production. if they had the right producer, to not interrupt the songwriting as much, but still get a great sound (feldmann obviously had a big part in the used's songwriting on all the albums he worked with them on), it could have been greater. but, i still enjoy the album for what it is. the mastering is annoying though, i definitely have to turn up the volume a bit more than usual.
Lol, my roommate just got home and was like, “Dude I just got back from seeing The Used! I should have told you, I kept on forgetting.” (I’m glad he forgot tbh) And I was like, “Did they play anything off their self titled?” To which he replied, “yeah man, they played a lot of older stuff.......and thank GOD cause that new album sucks balllllsssss.” It warmed my heart haha.
