Mostly just basing it off of here and Sputnik, yeah... the soundoffs on there so far are almost entirely really positive or really negative, very little in between.
This isn't as bad as people were making it out to be on here. It is too long and Rob's voice sounds shot on some songs but overall it's a decent release.
Wait, is Bert trying to change his persona into Rob?? Like I get that Rob and Bert are both short for Robert but he is definitely not a Rob
I mean between AP and here, the reception for Over And Over Again was the most positivity I've seen for this band ever on here lol. The Used has never been really loved on here. And I mean outside Artwork I haven't been super into much by them since ILAD so they really haven't deserved a ton of love haha. Easily their best since ILAD which yeah, there's not a lot of competition in that statement for me lol, but I'm really enjoying it
Someone mentioned he was going by Rob now so I've just been going with it. Plus the Bert I remember was screaming and throwing up on stage.
There is a lot to digest on this album that I don't think I could in just one listen. It's good enough that I want to dive back in but there were times I felt it drag. Some risks payed off, others didn't. At this point in their career I'm glad to see them push themselves.
Their S/T and ILAD were such important albums for me in terms of adolescent, finding my own taste in music, making friendships, learning to play music etc, that I always give this band a try with each album. So far, this LP is certainly more interesting than the last ones since ILAD.
The bad thing about a long album is finding the damn time to sit down and listen to the whole thing. Listened once when it leaked but haven't had a chance to sit down and give it another listen. Hopefully tonight when I'm cooking dinner. I did really like it but need another few listens to really let it sink in.
Yeah Rise Up Lights and For You are songs I really didn't care for. Like I can appreciate the sentiment but just not good, and especially as an opener
I thought I wanted to give this a chance, but I.... don't. Bert's voice sounds shot, it just reminds me of Heroine-era Sonny from FFTL with about 20 years of age on it, and I just can't deal with it.
I totally get a lot of issues people here have with this, but those very same issues are reasons why I love this so much. I legitimately feel like it's going to be a special record for me in the same way their first three (plus Vulnerable) are. I'm just super excited to get to know it more and live with it for a while.
Vulnerable has a 69 on metacritic. In love and death has a 64. Maybe we all have bad taste in music? The canyon is sitting at an 88 on metacritic
I mean, more power to you if you like it. I have bands from this era that I adore, and I understand why not everyone else does. Coheed is my favorite band, and while I love most of what they do, I get that a lot of people aren't checking new Coheed out.
I enjoy the guitar work but to be honest I knew I would with Justin on board. Bert sounds good here and there but his voice just doesn’t have that ‘it’ for me anymore with it mostly sounding shot as hell. His voice kind of dropped off after the first couple of albums. Still really enjoy the first single. Maybe I need more time with the album as it’s a lot to digest on first listen.
I think even on Vulnerable Bert's vocals were pretty great despite the song being mostly mediocre. His vocals here sound worse than ever honestly.
