I really hate the production on this album, it's complete trash.

The music itself though, definitely the best album in a while. If the album didn't sound like they recorded it from a closet with one mic, it would really shine a ton more. Reminds me of The Blackest Beautiful in that sense

 

Not sure why they made a lyric video for rise up lights. Probably the worst song on the record lol

My tops are for you, broken window, upper falls, over and over, about you, and mouth of the canyon

 

I have a love/hate relationship with The Used. They're my favorite band of all time but I hate them for making everyone else sound like garbage. I can only handle a couple singles from each artist but they pad their albums with crap. Everyone knows the truly unique future Grammy winning band The Used is the only band that can make a good full album

 

I admire that they "went for it" on this but I dont think this band has the talent (or "right set of tools" to word it more pleasantly) to pull off an album like this. Instrumentally it isnt that interesting, the lyrics are trite, the melodies are meh, etc.

I like the production style they went for but the songs dont take advantage of that style very well imo.

I usually love when bands make albums like this.....but they have to have the writing chops and lyrical content to back it up. I just don't think this set of individuals is suited to do that, they arent that type of creative.

Basically same feel.

All jokes aside, I knew The Used was still touring but I did not realized they had new music coming out. I’m honestly very curious

hot-take: "Upper Falls" and "Over and Over Again" are the only things that should've been kept on the album, even those arent mindblowing.

 

I used(hehe) to like this band in 00's but their new album is not for me.

I couldn’t imagine actively deciding to listen to this over Julien Baker at all this weekend haha.
That being said it’s cool that some people are enjoying it, may not be for me but at least these older bands are still kicking around.

 

I listened to Julien Baker's new one before I left for band practice lastnight. Then, on my way to practice, I put on The Used's new album while Julien Baker's was sitting right next to me... Sigh... I listened to JB on my way home though

That’s why I added the second part to my post haha, I know there are a lot of people who still like this band and a lot of people who have great musical taste. Just isn’t for me, I’ve tried to get back into them many times. I really enjoy their first lp and half of their second tho.
