Paradise Lost - A+, love it! super catchy and definitely what i'd consider a perfect song by the used, great way to kick it off
Blow Me - B, i like this one but i could have done without the feature. i know bert doesn't really scream anymore but the song would have been a lot better if he did the screaming on it.
Big, Wanna Be - D, the biggest miss on the album for me... it has grown on me a little bit, but ehh it just sounds so generic.
Bloody Nose - B, this one is pretty good but not quite memorable enough to be a top song.
Wow, I Hate This Song - A, this one seems to be quite polarizing, but i really love how bert pushed his voice a lot, and the heavier tone of the song.
Cocoon - B, cool vibe but not long enough to leave much of an impression
Cathedral Bell - C, this one is interesting, i like that they did something different but to me it's a little boring.
1984 - C+, another weird one, it'd almost be a B but the "ignorance is this" part annoys me sometimes.
Gravity's Rainbow - A-, i like this one quite a bit, has some really good melodies, doesn't quite reach the highs of paradise lost though.
Clean Cut Heals - B+, love the funkiness of this track!
Heartwork - B+, i'm mostly just a sucker for the nostalgic feel of bert's spoken word part. i'm a fake is one of their best, too bad they didn't take this into a direction like that.
The Lighthouse - A, really should have been a hit single. this song is just so catchy and good.
Obvious Blase - B+, this one has a special vibe, bert sounds great and the drums are a lot of fun of course.
The Lottery - C, most of the song is good but unfortunately the breakdown seems really forced and once again, just doesn't feel right without bert doing the screaming.
Darkness Bleeds - A-, great energy on this one. end is pretty cool too.
To Feel Something - A-, good way to end the album, love that it's softer but then gets heavy in an interesting way at the end.

Album - B+
hard to live up to the magic and nostalgia of the first couple albums, but they got really close here. bert sounds amazing, better than he has in quite a while. feldmann's production and songwriting really brings out the best of the used, but i miss the focus on more interesting guitar riffs (quinn is sorely missed), and i think that they should have dropped the features and had bert do a little screaming of his own (even if he has no plans on replicating it live due to his vocal health). this one also took a few listens to fully enjoy but there's some really cool stuff here and some great experimentation. it's a better album than i could have hoped for at this point in their career, so i am pleased!

 

I’m only familiar front to back with the self-titled, which I love, but this is honestly right up there with it. I love how many different things they try and holy moly can they ever write a chorus. Bert’s voice sounds incredible — Paradise Lost, Wow, I Hate This Song and Obvious Blasé are some of my favourite that really show that. This album hasn’t worn off me at all since it came out, I just keep coming back to it

 

I've said it before and I'll say it again, "Lighthouse" is SO GOOD!!!
It's actually ruining the end of the album for me because I keep playing it on repeat! hahaha :P

I actually got goosebumps today, and I wasn't sure music did that for me anymore! :D

Artwork is great, it secretly has some of the best melodies. Sold My Soul and Meant To Die both have these like... smooth kind of melodies that's hard to describe, but they're really great. More tracks as well, but those two particuarly are jumping out right now

 

I absolutely love Artwork. It's definitely my second favorite album by them, right before their ST. Something about that album really jumps out to me. Both Sold My Soul and Meant to Die are always stick in my head.

Thanks for talking about this! I checked out those two songs on your guys recommendation last week and was blown away. I’ve been listening to the album nonstop since then. It’s so good, I need someone to talk about it with! Now Artwork is right up there With Heartwork and the self-titled for me. I need to do a full discog run because all three of the albums I know by The Used now are killer!

 

Glad that you're liking Artwork! I love that album so much. I've been doing a deep dive into all of The Used's albums the past week or so and I honestly love everything they've done. In Love and Death is obviously a classic, especially if you love their self-titled. Lies for the Liars has been playing a lot for me. It's an overproduced nightmare.. but its still so good and is constantly stuck in my head.

 

I’ve given In Love and Death a few listens and wow, this might be my favourite?? They’re so good! I know there are conflicting opinions around The Canyon but wow, the four albums I’ve listened to are 8/10s at the very least, what a track record!

 

I'm here for this guy hearing ILAD for the first time. To get that experience back.

 

I’ve still got to become more familiar with a lot of the songs but I Caught Fire and All That I’ve Got have been stuck in my head constantly, I’m so shocked I didn’t check either of them out when I was growing up. Both are seriously some of the best ballads I’ve ever heard. Other stand outs are Let It Bleed (love the laughing on the album), Sound Effects and Over Dramatics and Lunacy Fringe. Besides the two singles I’ve only been listening to the songs in the full run of the album so it’ll take a bit more for me to be able to distinguish them all

 

Just bought the clear splatter vinyl. They really nailed splatters for this record.

 

I keep seeing new vinyls from them and am really tempted by the red one they have right now..
