I feel like I'm losing it, between reading this and some of the Toys shit talk the past couple pages

It's not my personal #1, but I expected it to win the bracket (obv it still may) and assumed everyone loved it, thinking back to the album thread here, reviews, etc.

I had no idea people would love Toys so much, I am a fan of that.

    A (Cancelled) Dork Prestigious

It's a great song but it's not better than Dark Sentencer. Kind of shocked it's beating it, to be honest.

It's got something for everyone, from poppy to proggy to shoegazey, and catchy as hell. Seems like an easy one for all to agree on.

Of course, same goes for IWAU, which should've been in the final

    No Fun. Not Ever.

I mean, I'm not really that surprised that this forum would choose a more poppy song over a proggy one.

I love Coheed's prog stuff. I love TDS, I just find Toys more interesting and a good combination of everything they've done to this point.

TDS rules because it hits all the marks of what Coheed does and does very well. Toys feels like them challenging themselves to write an intricate pop song.

    Toys

Toys is everything I’ve ever wanted from a coheed song. Catchy as fuck but still dynamic and interesting.

Dark Sentencer is great but it's more of the same from Coheed. Like someone said earlier, Toys is so different for them and they completely nail it. It's also one of the best single riffs from the band ever

Toys sounds like Sum 41 gone heavy. Fight me.

    No Fun. Not Ever.

I can understand it being a different type of Coheed track, but don't really see how it's all that groundbreaking.

I don't see how TDS is groundbreaking either then because it's nothing new from them. I love it, but it's 100% a typical Coheed song in vein of IKS

I love heavy Sum 41! I don't see it though

I never said it was groundbreaking. Just that I preferred that style of song more.

TDS on paper is the Coheed style I most prefer (dark/prog/epic). But it honestly feels so phoned in and bland. There are several far more interesting and satisfying takes on that vibe here (IWAU, Black Sunday, and even The Gutter)

And I'll say it again: Domino did everything TDS does better, and more. They're both the same type of thundering sci-fi intro song, but only one has interesting melodic twists and time signature changes.

Honestly, Toys reminds me a lot of The Hard Sell stylistically. I think it’s just a better song in that vein.

Exactly what the verses in particular remind me of. Sounds like the kind of think you'd hear at a early 2000's show where everyone hops up and down. The riff is accented a bit more complexly but that underlying thing is there. It kind of irks me.
