I think YOTBR would be a lot more fondly remembered if the mix was better, Joe Barresi really did them (and Fair to Midland) dirty.

The entire production on this album is absolutely miserable and I'm so glad they only did one album with Ross/Barresi. The making of videos really show how bad they were with this and how hard they pushed Coheed to change their sound. Weird time.

Remember before YOTBR when Claudio posted a pic of a handful of his hair when he cut it to get back to the 2003 style?

 

I think Barresi was really the weak link, if you listen to Fear to Midland's Arrows & Anchors which was done completely by Barresi (minus the master), it has all the same sonic flaws as YOTBR. The man's sound just doesn't work for guitar driven progressive music..

Literally, Juggernaut, Made Out of Nothing, and the Broken are the only tracks I ever listen to from this. This round is going to be boring as fuck.

 

Barresi made the production sound pretty crappy, but Ross was instrumental in the sound choices they went for on the album that fell flat. They just aren't the right choice for a band like Coheed, as great as Ross is.
